Wheelchair friendly days out

My dad has recently started using a wheelchair to recover from surgery and is struggling with the lack of independence and being outside that comes with it. It isn’t an automatic wheelchair so someone has to push it which limits places we can go on days out. He also has chronic pain in his shoulder so can’t do too much with his arms

So I’m looking for ideas on days out or activities that are wheelchair friendly! If anyone has any advice that would be amazing!

    I'm sure you will be greeted by other members.
    Sorry to hear about you Dad, i should imagine that days out would depend on what is of interest; ie many places on the web will tell you if it is wheelchair friendly. 
    When we took our own mother out in her wheelchair a lot depended on who would be pushing the chair.

    It's great that you're looking into accessible days out you can all enjoy. I don't have any particular personal recommendations, but you may find this page on our website about days out helpful. 

    Countryfile have also put together some wheelchair friendly days out and walks, if any of them are near you :) 

    Tourism for All may be another good place to start. 

    What kind of activities does your dad enjoy?

    thanks for the reply! The country file link was very useful :)
    He really enjoys music and before being in a wheelchair was going to gigs all the time so I’m looking into finding accessible venues. 
    He also really enjoyed cycling but obviously can’t do that anymore so a bit clueless on activities to do instead

    Thanks for your response @georgiar02. I appreciate this seems like a lot to process and you want to help your dad to enjoy the things he usually enjoys. How are you finding it all personally? Unfortunately, this is not an area of my expertise which means I am hoping someone else can respond to you with more information.

    In the meantime, I have just discovered a whole new world of wheelchair bikes and accessible bikes for wheelchair users. I searched Google for "wheelchair cycling". I hope this might be of some help/reassurance and something that might be worth looking into.

    If we can do anything to support you further, please don't hesitate to let us know and we'll certainly be able to listen and try to help  :)
