If you live in Scotland then it’s either taken off your council tax bill or paid into your bank account. This will totally depend on each individual local Authority. https://www.gov.scot/publications/local-government-finance-circular-2-2022-guidance-to-local-authorities-april-2022-cost-of-living-award/
If you live in England then it’s paid Into your bank account, if you pay your council tax by direct debit. If you don’t, they will contact you.

Ah it's a Scottish thing then - with the £150 being used to reduce the CT liability.
This answers my question in part but in a circular I have received from the council (England) they stipulate that they too can/may/will use it to reduce CT. Seems that they decide who gets it paid into a bank account or used to reduce the CT liability.
That's not what was originally said - all will receive it as it is there to help towards fuel costs and not the CT liability.

Personally, i think it's only right that they use it to pay off any debt you may already have. As advised in your other thread, you can still apply for CTR even though you're not claiming PC.

I could, I do have that right. But I keep on telling you that if I was physically/mentally able to make such a claim for CTR and supply all of the relevant evidence to support it I would have supplied the same information to the Pension Service/DWP and in doing so would have retained my GPC payments as well as having all of my CT discharged. Not everybody has that ability.

Yes, you do keep on saying that but then you moan about being in debt and not being able to pay your council tax so the advice is given. We do seem to be going round in circles. For this reason, i'm out.

Being advised is one thing being able to act upon it is another. As I have said elsewhere the Council used to have a 'visiting team' to help people make these claims as well as help to maintain the benefit. They no longer exist. Getting out of the house is almost impossible.

To the best of my knowledge no one has received the £150 yet. It maybe just an extra discount that your local Authority gave.
I live in England too and had my council tax bill a couple of weeks ago and there was an extra £50 reduction for mine because of extra funding they had.
I would say the best thing to do is contact them and ask.

Have a look on your local council website as mine states exactly what they are doing and when regarding the £150

I know each council will deal with it how they see best but mine is following what was originally said . Anyone who pays by direct debit will get the money in their bank between May and Sept.

If you don't pay by direct debit they are working in setting up a secure system to get bank details and these households will get a letter

I'm sure the reason they stopped that was due to covid, have you thought about asking age uk for help?
That is a possibility but given that we are now back to some sort of normality I would have thought that the system could be put back into operation. I have spoken to AgeUK and the CAB, both state that they have very restricted services and appointments to see them are not available at the moment. They also stated that they no longer have an outreach programme to visit me at home.
Surely there must be a system somewhere where an outreach system is still working? Or am I the only person in the UK that needs this level of help?

Are they suggesting that I will have to pass on by way of the internet all of my banking details? Not happy in doing that. Surely a cheque can be sent instead? What worries me is if they use the £150 to put against my CT liability. I need the cash for the fuel costs not a reduction in how much CT I have to pay from April.

@racyguy I would check your local council website as each council is different .

They already have bank details for customers paying by direct debit the same as any company does that you pay through direct debit

Cheque payment doesn't suit everyone like me I can't get to a bank to pay a cheque in

    I will thanks
I don't pay them by direct debit as I am not able to pay a fixed regular amount - I pay what I can, when I can by cheque through the post.
I can always have someone pay a cheque in on my behalf - that is not problem

If you haven’t received your council tax bill then how do you know about the £150?
