I have been referred to short term care cmht and new approach is to have mental health services and support workers within team. I have been appointed one. Due to needing to build up trust and time restraints being 6 months within services. I have to have specialist referrals from team in order for services to take time.
My support worker appointed within CMHT has asked if i would give her permission to make a referral to social services in who maty be able to offer support in different areas.
She advised they would do an asessament and advise them.
Problem
I am on old legacy benefits and not migrated yet ESA/PIP/SDP.
Apparently DWP are starting to transfere claimants on old legacy benefits to UC from the 9th April.
If I give her permission in what capacity will social services have control ovefr my choices decisions or causing problem with legacy benefits.
What can they offer. sorry this system is all new and cmht medical support and benefits all changed there syastem drastically in past 6 months after covid. I just need knowledge advise so I know my options and direction to proceed. As I haven't got a clue and services medical and all people in these sectors are not always the brightest at listening or giving useful advise.
So please Scope members carers and people in industry can you give me any information. I would be very very greatful.

Thankyou any chance you know anything about social worker bit. I haven't had any experience with this sector.0

They will do an assessment of your needs. The outcome of that will determine any help/support you need. They can’t take control of anything unless you have a mental capacity assessment. You can see information regarding this here. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/making-decisions-for-someone-else/mental-capacity-act/Managed migration for UC starts on 9th May. This doesn’t mean you’ll be invited to apply now. The goal is everyone will be transferred by end of 2024… whether they will reach that goal is anyones guess.0

Hi @charlie79
Thanks for the update and hopefully the replies above have been helpful.
I hope you are getting along well with your support worker, and it's good that they are trying to get support in place for you. If you want to find out more information about needs assessments, you can read about them on this NHS page.0
