@paddy67 I would be very interested to know, too. Sounds like a similar situation to us.0

What other benefits, if any do you claim exactly?0

It can be paid to more than one person in a household, such as a couple caring for each other. To claim the Carer's Element of Universal Credit the eligibility rules are the same as for Carer's Allowance, but there is no earnings limit involved.0

Yes of course they can but it will also depend on their circumstances, such as what other benefits (if any) they may already be claiming. If they're claiming any of the old legacy benefits or pension credit then they maybe entitled to the Severe Disability Premium couples rate, which will give them more money than carers allowance. However, this will depend on their circumstances and whether any other adults live with them.

paddy, as advised by others - the short answer to the question asked is Yes. However this may not be the best thing to do. The best action depends on what other benefits they claim, how old they are and who else they live with. If you provide more information we can offer informed advice.1

You can claim Carer's Allowance if you are over State Pension age but if your pensions are more than the Carer's Allowance you don't receive any money. It's an overlapping benefit. BUT you can receive a carer's premium in Pension Credit instead. Plus if no other adults live with you and nobody else claims Carer's Allowance for you, you may each receive the Severe Disability Premium as well.
If you are both of State Pension age then it may be very beneficial for you to see if you can receive any Pension Credit. You MUST both be State Pension age to make a new claim for it.
Receiving the Care Component of PIP and caring for each other can considerably increase the amount of Pension Credit you could receive.
Try putting your details into a benefits calculator like this one

Still it may be useful info if they are State Pension age or for other pensioners who read it.0 -

You didn't answer the most important questions. Are you claiming any other benefits, besides PIP?

Hi,just to say we are only receiving PIP and our occupational pensions .0

In that case the issue of Severe Disability Premiums does not apply.
You can both claim Carer’s Allowance and receive it alongside your PIP awards.0
