Hi

I have a Dissociative Disorder, and wanted to post on here about these little know about conditions, to hopefully spread a little information, but also reach out to others on this forum who also have experience with dissociative disorders and let them know they aren’t alone.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing those links @CharlieRose256, I'm sure they will be useful to those who have shared experience and those who want to learn more about what you go through.

How are you managing with your mental health at the moment?

Thanks for sharing these @CharlieRose256 :)

Would you feel comfortable telling us a little more about your experience of living with a dissociative disorder?

@Ross_Scope I’m doing a lot better at the moment with my mental health recently, thank you for asking ❤️

@Tori_Scope of course! Do you have any particular questions?

Hmm, I'd be interested in hearing about whatever you're comfortable sharing @CharlieRose256, but I suppose maybe I'd be keen to learn about how you came to realise you were experiencing a dissociative disorder, and what the main challenges you've faced are?

@Tori_Scope I realised a few months before I was diagnosed, through therapy and lots of research. Honestly the main challenges for me is the memory problems that come with it, makes daily living very difficult when you can’t remember more than half your day. Travelling is also a issue - I can’t go anywhere unaccompanied, else I risk an dissociative episode and getting lost/disorientated.

That makes sense @CharlieRose256 :) I'm glad that you managed to get a diagnosis, as that can often feel quite validating.

Do you have enough people in your life who are able to help you with things like travelling?

Do you mind me asking whether you've found therapy helpful?

@Tori_Scope sorry for the delay in replying, had a hectic day or so.

Truthfully, no, I don’t really have enough support - my Dad is also disabled (more so than myself, requires significantly more support), and my Mum is his career. All my friends have lives of their own, but I am getting a DP from my local council soon to employ a PA, so it should get better soon.

Therapy has been incredibly helpful so far, it helps that my therapist specialises in my condition, but it’s a long process, we suspect I’ll be in therapy for several more years, if not the majority of my life.

I no how hard it must be living with something like this I have EUPD although it is a personality disorder I do suffer from dissociation a lot and it can be hard.  I've had this condition since I was 19 I am now 37 and it's more the stigma of these sort of disorders that's hard to live with. I've been hospitalised several times and had several brushes with the law due to this disorder but recently started doing dialectal behavioural therapy which really helps because pumping me full off mirtazipine and amitriptyline doesn't do anything for me.  It's good you have reached out and no your not alone and there is help out there.
