Glad to see him go because he is completed unsuited to the job. However I fear that whoever replaces him is likely to be more likely to pursue low tax and reduced public spending policies which, in my opinion, is not what is needed.

Who do you think is the most likely candidate to replace him @calcotti?  Appreciate it's early stages and there are likely a few that will put their hat in the ring.

No idea. I am certain however that whoever it is will not be to be liking bearing in mind that the electorate for the leader is Tory party members who are further to the right than Tory party voters.

Definitely going to be an interesting few months ahead, it's almost hard to predict anything that goes on in number 10 these days.

It was time or rather should have done it ages ago was starting to think the Queen would have to sack him the way it was going

I'm not into politics so no comment on replacements but think it's going to be chaos for few months with all the resignation

What did we think of his speech? I thought it was interesting that there were no mentions of any of the scandals or mistakes that have been made, though I suppose it's normal by now for politicians to avoid discussing damaging subjects.

I thought the speech was alright.  No point dragging up the negatives in this particular speech...and was pleased to see he didn't just reel off a load of generic positives either.

Not sure who's going to replace him...but I don't hold out much hope for them being any better in the current circumstances.

As an Ex-Civil Servant, I was completely unsurprised that he never mentioned the scandals. They ALWAYS find the little good they have done, and mention that. Personally, I think Boris was out of his depth from day one.

I agree with you @Siwheels73, he was definitely out of his depth. I very surprised that people didn’t realise this before he was voted in.

Some people might think that it’s a mistake to allow him to hang on until autumn...but I couldn’t possibly say.

He’s not setting a good example of democracy.

It is shocking that the Tory MPs that put him into the final two candidates last time round either didn’t realise that or chose to ignore it.

I didn’t realise that they get paid 25% of their annual salary as severance pay when they resign.

I haven't been keeping up with all the extra news today, August or September is a long time to wait- but it's probably going to take that long for them to sift through all the people who will put their names forward!
