New PIP award - confused if should do mandatory reconsideration

Hi,

I am new here although found this forum a week ago, following a text I received to say I had been awarded PIP.

I am still waiting letter but based on calling the automated bit I have worked out I have been awarded daily standard amount. However I am not sure due to confusing elements of mobility part I am not sure if for this component I should request reconsideration when letter comes.

Just to explain my situation:

Most of my ailments I have had since birth (so they are my normal) I have osteogenesis imperfecta as well as I was born with Gastroschisis 40+ years ago which they didn't see much of and treatment for it hadn't advanced so lost bowel due to gangrene - which has resulted in adhesion pain and bowel sensitivity/IBS

I have had operations to straighten my legs so could walk, but a part of the condition is loose joints which combined with hypermobility causes frequent dislocations of joints and a load of joint pain.

Sorry for long explanation but wanted to explain.

I have only just applied for PIP mainly because I kept thinking, I am in a good job and I can support myself  so money better to go to other people but a friend convinced me to apply especially with increase in costs for everything including fuel.

I can't walk that far on a good day due to pain but can managed up to probably 100 to 200m (I think, a lot less if cambered path) don't really measure it, and sometimes can walk unaided a bit or need my sticks, on a bad day I rely on my wheelchair to get around, and worst day I can't get out of bed (hip instability).

I drive everywhere (have blue badge) or else I just really couldn't manage getting out and about. I can plan a journey however going anywhere unfamiliar I have to scout out the place weather it is drive there before or gather what I can from google to understand if camber on paths, accessibility etc. But that's something to restrict falls which I have a number of but generally due to this planning I can not go somewhere on my own if this is a likely possibility.

Also a crowded places I have to avoid, if walking as a knock to my knee by a bag or person can cause dislocation and ill ended up on the floor and due to instable joints I can be a bit steady

Having this since birth I can relocate joints myself so don't have to get medical attention each time (or id just have to set up home in gp surgury) and I have developed ways to kinda manage or know what to avoid to reduce risk to me.

When I am fully walking I have to take frequent breaks along way but just little sit downs.

Sorry for long first post but want to get opinions if there is justification for mobility element or not really as don't know if I need the added stress of reconsideration if it's not founded.

Thanks

    Have a look at
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria

Read the two activities that are looked at - in your case activity 12 appears to be the relevant activity.

Physical mobility is assessed to a type of surface normally expected out of doors, such as pavements on the flat and includes the consideration of kerbs. As with all activities, is about based on what you can do the majority of days. It is there fore not about your worst days, nor your best days.

Thankyou, looking at examples still a bit confused from a mobility side but also don't know yet what points have been allocated to what element as I assume the letter will tell me that

Hello @AilleantSian and welcome to the online community. Thank you for creating this opening post and telling us about your situation. I hope the reply from calcoti has been helpful for you.

    How are you this evening?

Have you received a letter yet? Hopefully once you get that and can see what points you have been awarded, it will help you get more of an idea about whether you want to do the MR.

This is a very supportive and welcoming community to be a part of, so I hope you find it to be a positive outlet. Do feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you'd like :)
