PIP paper based assessment

Hello there ,
I wondered if someone can help me.
I put my PIP forms in & they received it on the 20th June. I didn’t hear anything till my physiologist rang me on Tuesday & said that DWP had contacted her and she didn’t want to speak to them without getting permission from me I said yes and she said she would tell them about my bipolar , ptsd that I’m doing CBT & doing long term therapy. Thursday morning no caller ID rings me I answer and it’s someone from PIP (didn’t tell me they were ringing , didn’t have an appointment) she asked who helps me bath etc on my bad days I said my mum like I did in the forms she then asked a few other questions was literally on the phone for 13mins and I was panicking like trembling so she said she’s not going to put me through a face to face or telephone appointment as she can hear I’m really struggling to speak so she said she was going to do a paper based assessment. I’ve never heard of it & im worried sick. She then asked me if I wanted to add anything and I said I don’t know if you have spoken to my physiologist but she has recently diagnosed me with PTSD she then said ‘I didn’t actually speak to her because I tried calling again but she didn’t answer’ but I feel like I have enough info to send what I have to DWP. I didn’t send any supporting documents etc literally just filled form out and gave them my physiologist number. I’m very lucky I’m having a paper based instead of going through the stress of an assessment. (The lady was really lovely & said twice on the phone I’m really sorry if these questions are difficult & that she can hear I’m struggling) I’m just worried she doesn’t have enough evidence if she hadn’t spoke with anyone. My GP have been trying to get in contact with my Physiologist so I’m worried as she’s useless & hasn’t sent anything over to gp because I’m still under treatment plan.
Sorry for the long post just wondered if anyone has had something similar.

Paper based assessments are rare but they do happen. It sounds like it was the health assessment provider that rang you and not someone from DWP. Sometimes they will ring if they just have a few questions to ask and for this they don't usually send out an appointment date/time because it's not a full assessment.
If there wasn't enough of evidence to do the paper based assessment then you would have had a full assessment.
Once the report has been returned to DWP a decision can take between 2-12 weeks.

We had requested a paper-based assessment for a family member.  He received an unexpected call on Monday just to ask a few questions.  He wasn't able to speak and directed them to me.  They called him again on Tuesday, pre-arranged, with me present.  It was the HCA and she asked a few questions which I answered on his behalf.  The call lasted a few minutes (less than ten) and she said he would hear in due course.  She was very nice, friendly etc. and seemed to understand how his conditions affect him on a daily basis.

I assumed she had information from his psychiatrist/GP as she referred to an ongoing health investigation that has occurred since the application was submitted.  She also indicated she understood how that would make matters even more difficult for him and asked very specific questions that I assume would, depending on the answers, gain him more points.

So, yes, others have experienced a similar situation.

I hope you don't have too long to wait now @Jw893, you've done everything you need to, and all of the difficult parts of the process, so well done :)

Do you have things you like to do which help you feel less stressed, or anything which can help take your mind off the wait? Some people like to focus on things they enjoy, or spend time with family or friends.

I'm glad the community was able to reassure you, and please do keep us updated with how things go. We wish you the best of luck for a positive outcome!

I’ve had something similar for my review. End date of October 2022.
Requested forms in May and sent back late June, contacted by someone at DWP I believe a couple weeks after saying the form wasn’t signed properly, so they sent it out and resigned it. Got another call a couple weeks later asking some questions about what I put in the form, then the day after phoned back and said they where satisfied they could make a decision based on the evidence presented (one 5 page document from a support charity) and I’d get a decision in the post within 2 weeks. For some reason also mentioned the support I got for engaging counted as social support not prompting, which is worth more points.

I really hope I’ve managed to get enhanced daily this time, as if no other points have gone down, which they shouldn’t I’d only need 2 more and I’ve got evidence supporting a further 4 points.

Keep waiting for the mail and checking the pip support line everyday to see if the next payment has changed.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer to wait for you either @Kieran20 :)

I can see you posted pretty early on this morning, so I hope you managed to get some sleep last night?

Do you have anything you like to do that helps you to feel relaxed? It might be worth focusing on other things, even just for a little while, to help time pass, and break up the day.

We'll be here to support you whatever happens, so please keep us updated if you can.

Thank you all for your replies. I got my report back and with help from my mum the HP (nurse) scored 14 points for daily living & 10 for mobility. Can this be changed?

The HCP didn't score you anything. They make recommendations only. Only a decision maker can award you points. Before making the decision they should look at everything you sent, as well as the report and then make a decision.
They mostly go with the report but it has been known for them to go against it but it's rare.
