Some landlords demand payments to them to ensure they get rent (especially in temporary accommodation). If you have some kind of vulnerability like mental illness or being a careleaver. My rent is paid to the landlord directly I am glad because with the cost of living crisis I would probably spend it. At least I don't have to worry about eviction for non payment of rent. Temporary accommodation can be expensive I Was in the YMCA and it cost about £700 a month and I even had to pay £30 a week out my own benefits. You will only be able to pay your own rent when you in private or council accommodation. All temporary homing is paid to the landlord.

Yes that makes a lot of sence. Is this why they won’t give over the Housing Benifit Reference number to manage my account? And will how do I go about private rent

You will have to find a property that will except you as a tenant. You will usually have to pay a deposit and 4 weeks rent upfront. The council can usually help with financing for that. Remember though you might not be better off, bills cost a fortune at the moment.

If you move from temporary housing then your rent will be paid through your UC claim because new claims for housing benefit are only possible if you're living in temporary or supported housing.
As a care leaver you will be entitled to the 1 bedroom rate of local housing allowance. (LHA) If this doesn't cover all of your rent then you will need to pay the shortfall yourself.
You can put different postcodes in your area in this link and it will tell you what you'll be entitled to. https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/
You may find it difficult to find a private landlord that will accept a benefit claimant because they are usually very few are far between.

If the housing benefit is already in place due to the supported accommodation then the HB can be transferred to a private rental provided it is in the same local authority. It's a change of circumstances and a new claim is not required so. (However some local authorities will say that is not possible.)

Thanks calcotti, i didn't think that was possible because the OP already claims UC.

How does this make any sence, I’ve been in temporary accommodation for 8 months, and I’m claiming a disability benifit, does this not make me exempt from housing benifit allowance. And if I move from emergency accommodation into a property will my housing benifit not continue if I update them

Yes this is what I assumed as I’ve been awarded housing benifit over 6 months ago. I’m just trying to find out what my best options are moving foward and find suitable accommodation which I’m struggling for. Also as I’m being awarded this amount could it ever change
