Fibromyalgia and stress

Hi all I have a question about fibro. I was diagnosed with it 4 or 5 years about but several months ago I was given a care coordinator for help with other things. They say that my fibro is stress related. If this is the case then why is it that I can be feeling ok mentally at times and not too stressed (for me) but still get heavy fibro symptoms. I always feel fatigued even with small things and in constant pain with my body. Can anyone with fibro give me any insight as to what is the case and if its more than just stress.

This isn't something I've experienced personally @Agoraphobe, but I hope another member who has experienced this will comment soon.

@L_Volunteer may have some insight for you when she's next in :)

I was diagnosed with fibro around 10+ years ago. Stress can most definitely increase symptoms, for sure. I try my hardest to keep my stress levels as low as possible because i know if i don't my health just becomes worse.
I wouldn't say that stress is the cause of fibro, not at all.

Thanks for your comments. I didn't personally believe that it was all stress as it seemed much more than just that. I accept that it can make it seem harder but it feels so much more deeper and beyond the psychological.

    Perhaps it's a combination of things @agoraphobe

Have you told your care coordinator that you don't agree your fibromyalgia flare ups are caused by stress?

I still haven't seen her and prob wont for a while as my other support worker will be working on other stuff with me. I've tried doing research and it seems that maybe I need to explore other things that might cause all the fatigue other than fibro.

    Hi @Agoraphobe

The NHS website attributes stress to being a trigger of Fibromyalgia but like others have said here, there's no proof stress causes it.

Do you take any medication for your Fibromyalgia? I don't have any experience within this area, but I have IBD and some of my medications caused fatigue. It may be something to speak to your support worker or even your GP about.

How have you been recently? Have you been to or have an upcoming appointment with your support worker?
