Ramp for. Scooter

Hi I have been approved to have a ramp fitted so I can get out on my mobility scooter, this was back I may when they came out to assess and I’ve not heard anything since. Now the weather is changing I’m worried I won’t be able to go out on it even if they do come anytime soon. I’ve been stuck in the house for 4 years, apart from when my partner takes me to go see my mum who is in a nursing home. I have severe anxiety so was hoping it would have been done in the summer, give me the push to go out on my own, even if it was just up the road. I just feel now, it’s going to be at least another 6 months until the weather is ok for me to go out, and my mental health is not coping with this thought.

    Hello @Leelee51 I'm sorry to hear you haven't had any updates on your ramp. Is this something you'd be able to chase up with your GP or OT if you have one? Is there someone who can help you do that, even just for moral support?

    Have you also talked to your GP about the impact this is all having on your mental health? It can be scary to feel isolated or trapped but you're not alone in this.

    hi just an update on the ramp, it’s now mid Jan 2023 and it still hasn’t been fitted, my ot said she would look into it and that was 2 weeks ago now, I can feel my depression is coming back, I was ok for a long time but just feel there is no point in anything now, I’m not sleeping through the night because of my restless leg syndrome so find myself catnapping through the day, which then makes me not want to do anything anyway. Stuck in a hell of a rut.

    Please excuse if you have mentioned this in another thread, can I ask who has approved the ramp for you? I'm so sorry it's effecting your mental health so much, do you have support?

    Just a suggestion rather than getting a scooter rather than an electric wheelchair? I have had both I know a scooter is easier to find and can be the cheapest. However especially if you are young and travelling in the car then it would make it a lot easier. I'm not trying to change your mind or saying your old or scooters are old  just trying to get you to look at it in a different prospective.

    Hi Thankyou for the reply, I started off with a wheelchair and couldn’t get used to it, hence me getting a scooter instead, I find them a lot more easier.

    oh right if that's what you find is easier for you then absolutely go for it.

    Hannah it was my OT who suggested it and to get in touch with my local council, like I’ve said, they have had 3 people come out to measure it up but not heard anything since

    Maybe contact your Local MP? They may know someone direct to speak to seeing as you've been chasing up? They may want to know how badly this has been handled too.
