Activities and outreach for CP Adults

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum - looking to get some advice for my sister-in-law, who is a lovely, energetic, intelligent, 40 year-old woman with CP. She is confined to a wheelchair and lives in Caterham, Surrey in an assisted living block. I have seen various types of support and community engagements for children or young adults with CP, but very little for adults. Do you have any advice as to where I should look for social interactions/volunteer groups/excursions, etc. for this lovely lady? Otherwise, I find she sits in the flat all day without the stimulation she values so much. Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the community @mollym
Thank you for joining us! It's great to have you on board.
It's lovely that you're looking to get some advice for your sister-in-law. I'm not sure of anything specific in your area, unfortunately, but I hope that other members will know where you point you to. I'll tag my colleagues @richard_scope and @alex_scope in here.
Has she asked her GP what's available in her area? They may have some knowledge of local groups and events that might be accessible for her.0 -
Hello @MollyM and welcome to the community
I'm not sure of anything specifically for adults with CP in the Surrey area off the top of my head. As you say, there seems to be a bit of a gap in the market!
I wonder if you might find something at her local community centre? I know that they can sometimes offer activities and socials, and depending on the resources, services like hairdressers and counselling, and even day trips or excursions.
As @Tori_Scope has said, you might also find your GP can guide you as well. Do let us know how you get on when you can.

Thanks both! I'll let you know how things go as I investigate further.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to support you in the meantime. We are all here for you and listening to you0 -
Hi @MollyM
There are still not too many in-person events happening other than sports-based activities.
However, there are online groups that your sister-in-law can join if she would like to. There is this online community of course, and I run two virtual groups. The CP Sport/Scope Cafe (more sports based) which meets twice per month online and Network CP meets once per month where we talk about anything and everything!
There are also a lot of groups on social media as well.
