All a bunch of windPlease tell me how they help? WHat do they do? I do not need to have a cup of tea with other carers and listen to their stories. I need practical help0

Sorry but i don't see the reason for your poll? 4 of the options seem to be running scope into the ground. The forum can be a very helpful place for so many people when they have no where else to go for advice, support and guidance. Even if it's not advice they've come for, there's always someone here to talk to if anyone needs to.For me, i've made some really lovely friends here. One of which i've met twice and we've become wonderful friends. The other, i text quite often.3

All a bunch of windNo need to be sorry. That is your opinion and experience. Mine is totally different.0

Hi @wpshark, a good place to start trying to find out what Scope does is on this page below
https://www.scope.org.uk/about-us/
As for this forum, it’s a very good forum populated by genuinely helpful and kind members on the whole. I’ve been a member now for a number of years and have enjoyed my time on here immensely.

I see you made one thread back in 2018 and no activity on the forum since then, until now. Your experience with scope must be related to something else other than the forum. I would also be interested to know why you think this way.

All a bunch of windI posted a POLL not a discussion. Just pick and answer. We do not need to disuss or debate.0

Personally I find Scope very useful. I have asked a few questions and have had helpful replies. I enjoy reading the posts and occasionally contribute. Scope makes me feel less alone (I don't actually know any other disabled people to talk through experiences with), and I feel confident that should I encounter any difficulties due to be being disabled, someone on the forum will advise me. I have only been a member for a month or two but I have already found much useful information. As @Karen7788 suggested, it is better to ask a direct question rather than conduct a poll. By the way, it would be helpful if you would say what practical help you need - if you did this, I am sure someone would steer you in the right direction.3

Ok so looking up my own link if you’ll excuse the expression I find that Scope say;
‘We're Scope, the disability equality charity in England and Wales. We:
- provide practical information and emotional support when it's most needed
- campaign relentlessly to create a fairer society.’
The practical information section is jammed full of advice covering a multitude of topics.
I understand a little of what they can practically do since my partner and I had a second born child with cerebral palsy and we contacted Scope early on since we were so distressed about it all plus the fact that we were losing our home due to the recession. A lady came to see us and suggested we ask the local authority for practical help but told us she couldn’t help us herself. Of course the local authority weren’t interested either at the time since we were talking about a baby there was little they could do for us so we were on our own, completely. That was thirty four years ago, but now Scope have an online presence and a very good forum.
When i myself had problems with my mental mental health I approached charity A one day, who signposted me to charity B, who signposted me to charity C who signposted me to charity A, at which point I gave up. So I have some experience of mental health charities, though I must say that Mind have a local coffee morning quite regularly for service users to attend.2 -
No disrespect @wpshark but if you think scope aren't helpful in any way for yourself why are you even posting on it? and to be quite frank ordering people to pick a category for a poll isn't the way to go.

All a bunch of wind[Removed by moderator - disrespectful]. I will endeavour to keep my opinions to myself and fall in line with everybody else who follow like sheep. Your intolerance and criticism is anti everythiing this forum is about. We all have a right to express our opinions and if mine offend you then move on.
The fact is that way too many "organisations" are funded with money that could be best used in financial support for carers and disabled people. My Carer's Allowance is £7.54/week since I went onto pension credit. Forget about the maths.......it is classed as an income and therefore is included in the DWP's calculation . The point is that Carers save the govt millions and yet we are treated like this? My letters to Scope and Caring Together and a myriad of other NGO's, politicions and Mp;s have only resulted in a reply that espouses the policy. So I ask again......WHat practical help does Scope and its brothers and sisters actually offer?0 -

@wpshark I am not the sensitive type so your insults really don't bother me. Feel free to call me a sheep and to insult the living daylights out of me. It won't affect me because frankly what you think is a matter of total indifference to me; but it galls me to read your posts dissing people who are trying to help you.3

Fantastic, could not libe without them@wpshark
If you are actually interested in what Scope does why not go to the source and find out? You can find their last annual report summary at https://www.scope.org.uk/about-us/annual-report/
I expect you won't bother as both the bias of your poll and response to members here show you are not interested in listening.
The fact is that way too many "organisations" are funded with money that could be best used in financial support for carers and disabled people.
Nice idea, but even if all the funding was removed it is unlikely to have any impact on the money that goes to carers. Very few, if any, are funded by the government. Yes they do receive some government funding and grants, this is usually money for doing something that the government wants and usually comes with conditions and expectations. If these were not available then the money would more likely be put into tax cuts or other sources of expenditure.
Money saved from corporate partnerships and sponsors would more likely go to those with shares.
Charity shops shutting will most likely reduce employment, reduce the number of volunteers in our society, and provide less support for those working to find employment. Some of which are often the beneficiaries of those these charities support. As well as increasing land waste.
There would be a lot less advocacy work being done or campaigns to raise awareness, and very little if any extra money for carer, disabled or other people living in poverty.
While you may not like it, the hard truth is that while these organisations and people involved may not like what is going on they do have to operate in the current political climate, who ever is in charge, and try to support those it advocate for in the best way they can.
And yes, I can appreciate what carers have to go through, but to be honest find it hard to have any sympathy for anyone who thinks it is acceptable to go onto a forum and insult disabled members because they are not getting the money they want to look after a disable person.
