At risk of being called the Grinch....
I don`t do Christmas; it`s a grotesquely over-commercialised religious occasion that means absolutely nothing to me.  However.... it is an expensive time of the year because I push the boat out for those who do enjoy Christmas.  I`m usually on my own for this period, but that doesn`t bother me at all.
On the other hand, New Year`s Eve is what I look forward to.  I believe in the "let the old out and the new in" at midnight; watching the search lights and hearing the sirens from the warships in the dockyard when Big Ben strikes 12, both whilst sipping on a nice glass of Quinta do Bonfim (Portuguese port).

@kevinokeefe I am usually friendly and happy, so much so I got called into a teams meeting and heard other members of the team complaining how cheerful I always am and wondering what I was on. So I sang to them, well what I call singing I doubt I managed to hit any key that would be recognisable on a piano.

I did discover while on the Norfolk Broads I have a magical talent. When ever we passed another boat I would cheerfully wave to them and they would wave back. Got back to London and got into a cab to get home. I decided to try my new magical power. Not sure if it is the pollution in London, but it didn't work. The responses tended to involve either one or two fingers.

I have never been a great fan of Christmas and found it too stressful to try and fit in with others expectations which usually lead to arguments. Or trying to eat in one meal probably more than I would normally in a week, and I don't drink alcohol. So getting rid of most of the stresses means I do actually enjoy the day itself. Even down to the traditional playing games at Christmas, though perhaps Pandemic and Cards Against Humanity are not quite your typical Christmas games.

I love the season, we spend it with the kids and usually at the sister in laws for new year, its not the same now, the kids are grown and only want money for a present, my better half buys them little gifts to open still, which is nice
