Hello folks! Is there a register for disabled people not to be affected by power cuts?

My name is boinger (it's a west brom thing). Just wondering if anyone can help. Both my wife & I are disabled, and my wife is sure she saw on TV that if you register somewhere that you are disabled, if we DO have the power cuts this winter, your home, as a disabled person, will not be affected... Anyone else hear the same or know where we register?... Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to the community 

    I've not.seen this but I don't know how they could just isolate a single property in a given supply area 

    You can register as a vulnerable person with your energy supplier and the national grid just contact them 

    I am registered and get warnings if any expected or reported cuts in area 

    They also will help if prolonged cuts if meds need to be refrigerated

    In relation to what @Janer1967 has mentioned, here is a link to Ofgem's 'Priority Services Register' webpage. Although your home as a disabled person won't be excluded from power cuts, you are entitled to the following support through this service:
    Advance notice of planned power cuts. If you rely on your energy supply for medical reasons your network operator can tell you about planned power cuts. For example, when they plan engineering work.Priority support in an emergency. Network operators could provide heating and cooking facilities if you are cut off supply.Identification and password scheme. This could include arranging a password or agreed on picture cards if callers need to visit or contact you. This way you can feel confident they are genuine. Nominee scheme. You can nominate someone to receive communications and bills from your supplier. For example, a family member, carer or someone you trust.Help with prepayment meter access. For example, moving a meter if you can’t safely get to it to top up.Regular meter reading services. For example, if nobody can read your meter.Accessible information. For example, account info and bills in large print or braille.

    You might also find it handy to sign up to Scope's free Disability Energy Support service. They will support you with registering with the Priority Services Register, amongst a whole host of other things. So, please do give them a little look to see if you could benefit.
