Injured ankle

Oh, if only that happened @Cartini0

I'm still waiting to see if they will do surgery on my ankle. Work have sent a letter stating that they would move my workstation downstairs so I can go back. I'm not sure I want to do that, I can still get a sicknote. I have a few issues with the way I've been treated at work throughout this situation. Can I refuse there offer and get another sicknote.0

Hi @Broreb1981 that's something for you to decide, as it comes down to what you're comfortable with at the end of the day. Have you raised these issues formally with anyone at work, to see if there's a way to resolve them?
And have you heard anymore about surgery on your ankle since you last posted?0 -
I went to physio yesterday and he made me an appointment for me to see the surgeon in 2 weeks, he says there's not any point in waiting as it's not getting better. He thinks the surgeon will suggest an MRI. Because of this I've decided to not go back to work until I know what's wrong with my ankle and what can be done. We know I have a complete rupture of 1 ligament but the damage that was seen on the ultrasound to do with the deltoid ligament on the inside is not fully known, plus, he thinks I have nerve damage because I can't flex my foot or turn it inwards and my toes are numb.0
-
Okay @Broreb1981that sounds like a sensible thing, you don't want too much going on all at once.
I hope you'll be able to get to the bottom of this with the surgeon and hopefully begin the road to recovery before long!0 -
Now I have a huge problem. Went to see the surgeon yesterday (not the one I was supposed to see) he asked me what I had done, I told him. He then said oh these xrays and scans are old but you have ruptured a ligament with an avulsion fracture. He then pressed in 2 spots on my ankle and said can you stand on your tiptoes. He then asked if I had any other health problems I said fibro, schizoaffective and malignant hyperthermia. I asked him if he knew what that was he said something to do with anaesthetic and that's when the problems began. He then went on to ask me how many times has it happened and does it happen every time you have an anaesthetic, stupid thing to say it only happened once, nearly killed me and won't happen again cus I can't be put to sleep. He then said well this is the problem I can fix your ankle but if you have a spinal block it can stop working halfway through the surgery and then we will have to put you to sleep and you won't want that will you. I have had 3 knee surgeries under spinal and no one has ever mentioned this to me. He then said your ankle is called a sprain, a full ankle sprain we should go down the none surgery route and you should where your boot, take painkillers and use your crutches, I said how much longer do I give it before something needs doing he said a year. A bloody year what is going on. My ultrasound was done in August the technician said he couldn't see properly it was too swollen and I would need and MRI, the physio has said the same and the surgeon just wanted me out the room. Come back if no better in a year, what if I worked on a building site, I can't work for a year. He never asked my job by the way. I can't drive, so I can't take the kids to school for a year, I don't have kids but again he never asked. The more I think about it the more stupid this sounds. Then to finish the meeting yesterday he said I can fix it though we will just have to talk again about the anaesthetic. What is going on here. What do I do now0

Been to physio today, he has suggested it could be that my body is overreacting and causing pain when it shouldn't be. He has told me to massage the area as much as possible with different materials. And if its no better after Xmas then he will investigate further. Its a nightmare I can't walk without crutches still and wearing anything tight on my ankle is so painful. I have looked on Internet and it says complex regional pain syndrome, this is the closest thing to what the physio said. Does anyone suffer from this and have any advice please0

I can hear how difficult this is for you @Broreb1981, especially with the long waiting times. It also sounds like you are concerned about the impact this could have on your wider life.
This is understandable and more a reflection of the difficult situation you are in rather than you as a person.
Do you have any support in place that could reduce the wider impact and make this feel more manageable for you at the moment?
I hope the physio and massaging help. I don’t experience this but I hope someone responds to you soon if they do.
Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to support you. We are all here for you and listening to you

Had a call from the original surgeon tonight, he is ordering me an MRI!!! He says it's been over 12 weeks, it's the 21st century let's get a scan so he can see exactly what's wrong inside then we know what we are treating. I'm so happy that's all I've wanted.0
-
Gosh @Broreb1981 what a faff it's been for you, hopefully the mri soon0
-
I really hope they find something that can be fixed @Broreb1981 it must be so frustrating for you.0
-
Part of me wants that too so I know it will be better but part of me doesn't because I don't like having surgery and the pain that comes with it. If they find nothing other than the ruptured ligament and avulsion fracture then it's going to be a very long revovery0
-
I know what your saying, but i always think half the battle is knowing whats going on, it's taking a time to heal now.
Fingers crossed for you.0 -
My ankle is getting worse everyday, walking on it for even a short time is really causing me terrible pain. I really hope this can be sorted because I don't know how I can live like this. Most of my day is spent sat down I only go out for about 2 hours a week. I'm really starting to worry what if they can't do anything about it, the physio I'm having is useless. I've still not had the MRI yet, but I'm getting really worried now0
-
Hi do you know when mri is due0
-
No, he said 2 to 3 weeks that was a week and a half ago0
-
Hopefully won't be long, if it gets too much you can always ring 111 or go to a@e0
-
Hopefully wont be long till you get your appointment @Broreb19810
-
Does using your crutches help @broreb1991? I also hope it's not too long until your MRI now0
-
Yes it really does help using the crutches and wearing the boot, although I can't walk for as long as I could a month ago, it's definitely got worse this last month. I don't use them around the house, I have to be really slow and careful. It seems to be that weight bearing is the problem and any uneven ground0
