You can ask UC to backdated both elements to when the DLA award started. There should be no problem with the child disability element but they may refuse to backdate the carer element if you haven’t previously told them about the caring
If you claim CA it will be deducted from your UC so there will not be any overall increase in your income. You will however get Class 1 NI credits rather than Class 3. If you are working you cannot claim CA if earning more than £132 (after some allowable deductions).0 -

I should have made clear that the earnings limit only applies to Carers Allowance itself and not to the carer element of UC. You can get that regardless of how much you earn (if applicable).0

This is exactly where we are. We are awaiting the written confirmation, but this week have been made a payment for dla. This appears to be middle rate. As we are already on UC what should we do next. Will browse through forum for advice but some pointers would be gratefully received.0

As soon as you have written confirmation report a change of circumstance to UC about the DLA award and that you are caring. You should then get the disability child element added to your UC award and the carer element.N31LCD said:This is exactly where we are.
