Can anyone help I’ve recently had an autism assessment however the assessor said I was autistic but as my parent did want to give much information and is against the diognosis I’ve been left without a formal diognosis which has left me with only one option which is private which I can’t afford because of cost can anyone help with options to get a formal diognosis as this would obviously change my life and give me a better quality of life

@Chris210490 Hello there, how are you today?

I'm sorry to hear you were unable to get a diagnosis the first time around. I'll admit, I'm not overly familiar with the process, but looking at this National Autistic Society guidance, would it be an option to request another appointment with a different GP?

What if my GP does not refer me?
If your GP decides not to refer you for a diagnosis, ask for the reason why. If you don't feel comfortable discussing their decision then and there, you can ask for a second appointment to talk it through. You could ask to see another GP at the surgery.
If you want to complain about the referral, you can make a complaint.
Just to advise, I've amended the title of your thread and moved it to our Autism and neurodiversity category to help others, who have perhaps been through the referral process, spot your question and reply.

Good luck and please keep us updated with how you get on.

Hi Chris, I am unclear as to how your parents views matter in your diagnosis at all.

If you over 18 and otherwise competent in the issue of mental capacity to make decisions for yourself then whether they want you to be diagnosed or not is irrelevent if you want the diagnosis and the relevent medical professional agrees it is suitable for you then you are diagnosed you just need to e-mail or write to them telling them when your appointment was and your NHS and/or hospital number and ask them why you have not recieved your diagnosis letter yet.

If you are under 18, wait until your are 18 and then ask to be re-refered.
