Carers element. What difference does it make to the claim?

Hi I recently put in UC claim and my husband was due to go see a work coach today we submitted a fit note my husband is on ESA contribution based support group we checked journal last night and noticed the appointment to see work coach had been cancelled so I replied on journal asking is there reason why it had been cancelled and is there going be another appointment sent I've only just received a reply at 16.00 saying no other appointment has been created but I've been asked this question they have asked if I claim the carers element with UC my husband's ESA will have to be ended do I wish to claim it I don't really no what to answer I've I'm aware ESA carers comes off the UC claim but what diffence does the element make to the claim am I better off saying yes or no to the element in appreciate them asking me because ovs it will make a difference but they haven't explained to me what difference is I'm just reaching out for some help here in answering this question to them

    You claiming carers element will not mean that his ESA will end. It has nothing to do with his ESA. 
    If you’re claiming carers allowance this and his ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

    Yes I understand that poppy but in my journal it says if you wish to claim the carers element the ESA will stop I don't understand it either I'm fully aware the ESA and carers is deducted from the UC claim is there any way I can show you the journal entry as I do believe that they have this wrong I've not answered the question as yet as I wanted some guidance in answering it

    It's asking if I want the element if I say yes the ESA will end I'm not sure how much element is

    That is not correct, carers element has nothing to do with his ESA. I have no idea how they came to that conclusion. Carers element is £168.81/month. You answer yes to this but i would also put a note on your journal and tell them that the carers element will have no affect on his CB ESA.

    Hi poppy I've added note to my journal saying I believe the information in my journal from yourselves is incorrect and carers element has no effect on my UC claim and he will still get his ESA in his own right and could they clarify this please I'm waiting for there responce from them

    Oh I'm getting run around with UC I replied saying I believe the care element doesn't affect my husbands ESA and he will continue to get it along with the care element as contribution ESA it's not means tested anyway that didn't reply for 2 days then they replied saying your claim for carers element has been verified so I messaged back said verified in what sence you being correct or myself she's replied saying contact ESA re this so still not sure on this very stressed re all this so my husband is now calling them re this

    The carers element will be claimed for yourself and not for your husband. Carers element has nothing to do with ESA, this is part of your UC maximum entitlement. All you can do now is wait for the statement and check to see what elements are included. It should include LCWRA, carers element, standard couples (over 25) and help with any rent (if applicable)

    It sounds really difficult that you are getting run around with UC @wish. Is there anything, in particular, that usually helps you when you are stressed?

    I can hear that your husband was calling them about it because you felt stressed about it and I am hoping this helped.

    Has your husband been able to call them yet? If so, I am wondering if you would like to share a little more with us about how this has gone for you.

    My Husband called ESA she said why they have said that as they can't see what his on ESA contribution or income related and she said and she couldn't say if we would be entitled to the element or not as not her area so I thought I would just take poppy's advice wait to see my universal credit statement and it's now been sent and it's got element on it then I've just had another message saying it could affect it as legacy benefit but I did look at legacy benefits ESA contribution is not on list I thought all these departments work together thought it strange how they all don't no the rules on the element I've just been online and filled in questions re prescription charges and glasses dental and it says we are now both entitled to full help with these so that helps as wasn't entitled before and I've just sent e mail change circumstances to council re council tax to say we are now been awarded universal credit thankyou for all your support

    Each section only gets training (and that seems limited) on their own benefit. None of them have knowledge of all benefits. As the other means tested benefits besides UC were supposed to end in 2016 - will not end until 2028 (unless it changes again).
