Moving Abroad

in Universal Credit (UC)
Due to circumstances at home I may be moving abroad at the end of the year, I know this means I will not be able to claim any UK benefits and I’m trying to figure out when my last payment(s) would be. I get my UC on the 30th of each month, and I may be leaving the UK around the 15th January, would I be entitled to a payment at the end of January from UC or would my last payment be the 30th December? Also, if I was to leave 15th January when would my last PIP payment be? My next PIP payment is due 2nd December. Thanks if anyone can help.

    I am unsure about the UC however I have found a website which may help for PIP on the government website. I have linked it below.

    Unfortunately I’ve looked at this already and I can’t seem to find much information online regarding when payments would stop specifically… there’s a lot of information for going abroad temporarily, but not permanently.

    As I understand it you will not be entitled to any payment for the UC period in which you leave because your entitlement is based on you4 circumstances on the last day of the period. Your last UC payment would therefore be on 30th December. If you delayed you departure to 24th January then you would still get the 30th January payment.

    PIP should be payable until the day you leave (or the Daily Living part abroad if you meet the conditions to qualify for this).

    Hi Calcotti, thanks for this information. One thing about PIP that I wanted to ask is because it’s paid in arrears… if I was to leave on say the 15th and my last PIP payment was due on the 15th (just theoretically) would I be due 1 last payment after my PIP ends? Don’t know if I’ve worded that right but if u don’t understand just let me know, thanks.

    That's definitely not the best thing to do. When ringing DWP you are ringing a call centre and this is not the place to go for such advice because they are not benefits advisors.

    PIP is paid in arrears. If your previous payment took you to say 30th December and you then left on 15th December then, to the best off my knowledge, are still owed two weeks of PIP. The date you are normally paid on is irrelevant.

    Where are you moving to? It will be sad to see you leave the scope community but at least you can get more help abroad. If I'm aware this charity is only for people living in England and Wales

    Scope community forums can be accessed anywhere in the world. 
    Scope help those all over the UK and not just in England and Wales.
