Are Christmas markets overrated?

It’s the time of year for mulled wine, and bratwursts.
Christmas markets have become a must do activity during the festive run up, but not everyone thinks they're 'all that'.
Recently, through social media sites like TikTok, we've seen market goers talk about how busy, inaccessible, and expensive some markets around the UK have become.
It's made me wonder if Christmas markets are have become overrated.

I’ve never been to a Christmas market, I don’t think. But I like German sausages! 😋0

I think they are very expensive. I also miss a lot of the independent crafting stalls.0

I like going around them during non busy times, such as midweek, but this years one, where I live, isn’t the best. I preferred the small business market they had a couple of months ago. I also don’t like how they put barriers up as they make going around in my wheelchair a nightmare. My Christmas market does still have some independent retailers, but there is less this year then previous years.

Hi all , we hadn't been to the Big one in Birmingham for a long time, we went this year and was very disappointed, it was nearly all German sausage and Beer, not as many ornaments/wooden crafts etc that they used to have, not that we brought much because it's always been very expensive, nice atmosphere tho.
Hoping to go to one at Stratford upon Avon this weekend, health, weather willing, it supposed to be a Victorian one, so we'l see x0 -
I've never seen the hype around christmas markets to be honest, they seem like my version of a nightmare. Really busy and noisy environment which is bad for someone with sensory issues and social anxiety, and then to add to that you're paying so much more for things.

Hi @SueHeath I think we are in the same area. I was told by my friend the Birmingham Market was more of a "meet up" but she's going to try the one at Leamington Spa, which has boasted a lot more stalls0

Yeahhhh Midlander Gals @Hannah_Scope - haven't been to Leamington Spa for an age x1

Yeah
My parents went to the autumnal fair in Leamington and said it was really good. I think I may venture to the Christmas one myself lol.1
