On what day does weekly carers allowance usually get paid into bank account?

    Thank you everyone. I am just waiting for carers allowance to start paying me. It has been 5 weeks now since i applied and I am getting very anxious while waiting

    Back payments are paid on any day of the week. Carers Allowance are having huge backlogs at the moment so it may be over 12 weeks before you begin to receive payments, I do hope this isn’t the case for you.

    Thank you for the information. I do hope its sooner then 12 weeks for me. It would be nice to get a payment this side of Christmas. I may try phoning for an update tomorrow to try to get a time frame

    For carers allowance, 5 weeks isn't long at all. You could be looking at, at least 3 months. Are you currently claiming any other benefits?

    No I am not getting any other benefits. It says when you first apply it will take 6 weeks to get payments is that not true?

    There are backlogs so the 6 weeks is quite optimistic. 
    Have you checked entitlement to Universal Credit as well? If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you’re excluded from claiming. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple. Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement.
    If you do claim UC then the Carers allowance will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

    I did go to the job centre and they told me I'd pretty much get no money from them because I will be getting carers allowance.
     I have had to move back in with a relative so I can give them more help though out the day and night and with daily needs. Universal credit seem to not want to help me with rent or anything like that whilst I help my relative with day to day needs and care for them. It's a joke really my relative can not work for them self and now I can't not work because they need me for more and more daily living needs and such. I will try to phone carers allowance tomorrow for an update

    The last place you should be going to for advice is your local job centre.
    If you claim UC you will be entitled to standard element £334.91 (over 25) or £265.31(under 25) as well as carers element £168.81/month. 
    The carers allowance will be deducted from your UC.
    When living with a close relative you are unable to claim help with any rent. What relationship to you is the relative? 
    I’m assuming the relative receives either PIP daily living, DLA mid:high rate care or Attendance Allowance?

    Thank you for the information. I am very new to benefits, I am 27 and have never before claimed any type of benefits so I am unsure about the whole process, I was led to believe at the job centre that UC and carers allowance are both 'means tested' so I would only be able to get one or the other. 
    I am caring for my mother, yes she gets daily living PIP. 

    So is the carers element different from carers allowance? Sorry for all the questions I just really don't understand the process

    You were informed incorrectly. Carers allowance isn’t means tested but UC is.
    Carers element is part of UC but carers allowance isn’t. 
    The carers allowance is deducted in full from your UC entitlement but it’s definitely worth claiming both together. Your UC maximum entitlement will be £503.72 minus the carers allowance £302. Total UC £201.72/month plus you will have the £69.70/week carers allowance. 
    Once you claim UC your first payment will be 1 month and 6 days later. You can apply for an advance payment but this will need to be repaid back and will reduce your future payments. 
    You will not have any work commitments as a carer but you will need to make sure you report being her carer when you claim.
    As you live with your mum you will not be able to claim for help with any rent. 
    Does your mum claim for help with any rent?

    CA is not means tested but you are excluded from claiming if you earn more than £123/week.

    UC is means tested. You can claim both CA and UC but the UC is reduced by the CA.

    UC is calculated by adding together different elements. If you are a carer your UC entitlement is increased by the carer element. You don’t have to claim CA to get the carer element.

    When you claim UC you will be expected to attend your local JC for your first appointment. After this as a carer you will not need attend any further appointments.

    So, as advised by poppy, your UC would be standard element £334.91 plus carers element £168.81 making £503.72/month. Your UC of £69.70/week (equivalent to £302.03/month) will be deducted from the UC.

    This means that your monthly UC will be £201.69 paid monthly and you will also have CA paid separately.

    When you are awarded the CA you should inform UC.
