If you can spot differences in the calculations it may be mine that are wrong!kittybelle said: i will double check in the morning and see where I got my figures wrong,I will update you then if that's ok.0 -
I got the same figure £306.25.I won't be having a WCA it's just light touch review of my details as far as I can see.havent had a medical in over 17 years, never had to fill out a form neither only received a letter from incapacity benefit dept three years ago checking what benefits I was in receipt of. Regarding the UC calculation. You say carers allowance is taken off but we will still get it won't we?,as we do now on IS.
I calculated next year's uplift as
£578-£307(carers)=£271.82+£185.86(carers element)+£285 (TP) =£742.86 per month.plus carers allowance £307=£1049.68
Plus rent£240=£1289.68
Which gives£322.42 weekly how's that lol?0 -
We at present do get to keep the rental income of £240 it is paid separately to me from local housing authority it is deducted of the income support0

Yes you will still receive the carers allowance in the same why you do now. Carers element will need to be claimed as part of your maximum UC entitlement.kittybelle said:You say carers allowance is taken off but we will still get it won't we?,as we do now on IS.

Many, many thanks. Have a great weekend🤗0

It would be worth ringing them and asking them whether you are noted on the system as having LCW or as having LCWRA. Ask if they can confirm in writing. You will want to know for when you claim UC (regardless of whether or not it is of your choosing or when you wait for managed migration).kittybelle said:I got the same figure £306.25.I won't be having a WCA it's just light touch review of my details as far as I can see.
Yes you would still receive the Carer's Allowance as a separate payment.kittybelle said:You say carers allowance is taken off but we will still get it won't we?,as we do now on IS
Close but you have made the common error of treated a monthly amount as the same as a 4 weekly amount. To calculate the monthly equivalent you have to multiply the weekly amount by 52 and divide by 12.kittybelle said:I calculated next year's uplift as

Yes I understand that you keep it. The difference is that it is taken into account when calculating IS but appears to be ignored for UC.kittybelle said:We at present do get to keep the rental income of £240 it is paid separately to me from local housing authority it is deducted of the income support
So on 2023 rates
For IS on your existing arrangement:
Couple allowance £133.30, disability premium £56.80, Enhanced disability premium £27.90, SDP £76.40, carer premium £42.70. Maximum IS £337.10/week. Minus CA £76.75 and rent of £55.38 (£240 x 12/52) = £204.97/week.
Add back the Carer's Allowance and rent you receive and the weekly income is £337.10/week.
If you claimed UC voluntarily without LCWRA then UC is standard allowance £578.82 plus carer element £185.86 plus £285 (SDPTP) =£1,049.68 minus Carers Allowance £332.58 makes UC payable £717.10/month
Plus CA monthly equivalent £332.58 making total £1,049.68.
Plus rent £240 =£1,289.68/month which is equivalent to £297.62/week which is less than on IS.
If you were then found to have LCWRA the LCWRA element of 390.06 would be added but the TP element removed so UC total would be £822.16 among total monthly income of £1,394.74 which is equivalent to £321.86/week which is still less than on IS.
However if you have LCWRA before claiming UC then the UC would be standard allowance £578.82 plus LCWRA element £390.06 plus carer element £185.86 plus £120 (SDPTP) =£1,274.74 minus Carers Allowance £332.58 makes UC payable £942.16/month
Plus CA monthly equivalent £332.58 making total £1,274.74.
Plus rent £240 =£1,514.74/month which is equivalent to £349.56/week.
Even on the last calculation, even though the rent is ignored, the gain is only £12.46/week (still £650/annum) because your underlying existing IS award is significantly more generous than UC.
Therefore it appears that you should only consider switching to UC in advance of 'managed migration' if you already have LCWRA.

Calcotti, what else can I say but wow. Your knowledge is outstanding. You have the patience of a saint. I really appreciate you taking the time and going into such detail for someone you've never met. You have given me something to think about and eased my mind a little. I have been tempted to ring the benefits office but was wary incase they popped a WCA form in the post.I will update you if I do.0

There is that possibility but it’s something you are going to want to clarify at some stage.kittybelle said:. I have been tempted to ring the benefits office but was wary incase they popped a WCA form in the post.I will update you if I do.0 -
You have a valid point there, although if I can recall I think a local benefit advisor told me when they first got in touch 3 years ago that it was only to check that people moving over from incapacity benefit to ESA didn't lose money. And as I wasn't entitled to any money, I guess incapacity branch have just kept me on the credits and have left me to it, so I presume there would be no wca or lcwra element involved, but like you say no harm asking.0
