Carers allowance and PIP

Hi my mum and dad both get pip at higher rate but due to my dads newly diagnosed cancer my mum will be helping caring for him for the 35hrs a week. Will carers allowance effect her pip? She’s got an indefinite award. They don’t claim any other benefits. Do pip need to be notified if my mum claims carers allowance for my dad? Thanks

Yes she can claim Carer’s Allowance and no she does not need to inform PIP, it may also be worth seeing if there’s any other benefits they are eligible for:

What other income do they have other than PIP?
If there are only the two of them in the house and there could be entitlement to means tested benefits they could be better off not claiming CA.0 -
Do people still get indefinite awards with pip? I thought DLA axed it ?0

No. The longest award for PIP is 10 years with a light touch review.disabledmom said:Do people still get indefinite awards with pip? I thought DLA axed it ?No new claims for DLA can be claimed for those aged 16 and over but there are still people receiving it that have indefinite awards.0 -
My dad is on state pension now and they told him it wont be reviewed and that as he has cancer I think they treat it differently. He wont get UC due to his pension/state pension and potential carers allowance as it will nil his entitlement. my mum isn’t quite old enough for them to claim pension credit either and they haven’t paid enough contributions for ESA c new style so they just get pip and my dads pension for now.1

I did hear that they are offering indefinite awards to people of pension age. Not sure if it's true maybe poppy will know.0

The longest award is still as i advised, 10 years, with a light touch review. There's no indefinite awards for PIP.Those of state pension age and above will be given a 10 year award if their conditions are not expected to change. No one knows what a light touch review involves yet because no one has actually reached that point in their claim. PIP was only introduced in April 2013 and the light touch reviews quite sometime after that.0
