Carers allowance

This is something regarding carers allowance that the government don't tell you. If you claim carers allowance and your salary is paid weekly then the amount of money you are allowed to earn after tax, NIC and half of any pension contributions is £132 a week which equates to £528 a month. However what they don't tell you is if your salary is paid monthly, after tax, NIC and half of any pension contributions,  then the earnings limit is £572 per month.
A lot of people on monthly earnings will be getting caught out by this thinking the limit is £528. We were told this by the government department for carers allowance.

No it doesn't. There's 4.3 weeks in a month and not just 4 weeks. When working out the monthly amount you times the weekly amount by 52 and then divide by 12.

I spoke to government carers allowance today and they told me exactly what I just posted. It used to be multiply by 12 and divide by 52 if you were paid monthly but that bo longer applies. It is calculated on your monthly wage after tax and NIC minus half of any pension contributions and the monthly limit is £572, that's from the horses mouth.

The 4.3 weeks in a month is exactly why the monthly earnings limit is slightly higher at £562

    If you earn £572/month you receive 12 x £572 = £6,864/year.
There are 52 weeks in a year so your weekly rate of pay is £6,864 / 52 = £132/week.

    £132/week = £572/month.
