80 years old what can I claim

in Benefits and income
I receive state pension and carers / mobility allowance I've lost the use of my hands and knees and back due to severe osteoarthritis can I claim anything else

    Thanks for posting
    the main one that immediately comes to mind is attendance allowance,
    its like PIP but for pension age


    But worth doing a benefits calculation as there might be others and potentially extra supplements if you do get the above 


    maybe worth talking to age uk?
     Or citizens advice to check and help you fill in the forms? 


    hope you are doing ok, I also have fibromyalgia and similar aches & pains too on and off daily.

    Thanks for all your advice I think from what I have read attendance allowance might be worth trying for I'm still awake like you too many aches and pains to sleep

    You’re welcome, yes try to get with form filling if you can so you can hopefully get it first time around. If it’s anything like PIP application process!!

    Can you clarify what you are already receiving. 

    You say  “carers / mobility allowance”. I infer that you mean you are getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA). If so could you confirm whether or not you get the standard rates or the higher rates.

    If you are getting DLA the suggestion by others to apply for Attendance Allowance is incorrect. You can’t get both.

    if you can answer some further questions it will help to give appropriate advice.
    Do you live alone or with a partner? If you have a partner are they pension age and do they receive any benefits?
    Does anybody else live with you?
    Do you pay any rent?
    Do you pay your Council Tax bill yourself?

    In the title of this thread you say that you are 80 and in the opening post you say you get State Pension and DLA (if I’ve. interpreted what you said correctly) so I am confused that there is another thread by you

    For DLA I should have referred to lower,  middle or higher rate of the care component and/or the lower or higher rate of mobility.

    Apart from answering the other questions I asked it would help if you said how much your State Pension is.

    Hi yes they get the high rate of DLA so apart from that and of course state pension is there nothing else they can claim

    There's 2 parts to DLA as advised above. Is that high rate care? You were also referring the question as "1" meaning yourself but now you're referring it as "they" so it's someone else?
    Does this person live alone and does anyone claim either carers allowance or carers element of Universal Credit for looking after them?
    Or do they live with a partner? If so is the partner in receipt of a disability benefit such as PIP daily living/DLA mid/high rate care or AA?

    What bits of DLA and at what rates do they get.

    The reason that information has been requested is that it affects the answer. If you don’t want to answer you can alternatively do as suggested by rebel and use a benefits calculator.
