Hello. Our 17 year old son gets PIP and I get Carers Allowance. We have been advised that he may be eligible for universal credit though he is in college. If his Universal Credit application is approved would that have an impact on the amount of carers Allowance that I receive?

It would not affect your CA, nor would the fact you claim CA affect his UC.0

If your son lives with you and is a full time student then he won't be able to claim UC. Students with parental support are unable to claim UC unless they've already been assessed as having limited capability for work before the college course started. Full details here. https://askcpag.org.uk/content/207854/universal-credit-and-disabled-students-an-updateAs your son is only 17 are you still claiming child benefit and/or tax credits or child element of UC for him?

Poppy123456 thanks for the link to the cpag article. Reading this it sounds like he may be eligible for uc as he is receiving 'non-advanced education ' ie below hnc level. He's on an entry level 1 course at college0

You've read the link incorrectly. As he's living at home with you then he won't be entitled to any UC, this includes non advanced education. See link. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-and-students
Studying full-time
You may be able to get Universal Credit if you’re studying full-time and any of the following apply:
- you’re aged 21 or under, in full-time non-advanced education and do not have parental support
- you’re responsible for a child
- you live with your partner and they’re eligible for Universal Credit
- you’ve reached the qualifying age for Pension Credit and live with a partner who is under that age
- you’re disabled, were assessed as having limited capability for work before starting your course and are getting:
Personal Independence Payment
Disability Living Allowance
Child Disability Payment in Scotland
Attendance Allowance
Armed Forces Independence Payment
