Do I have to go to a face to face work based appointment?

edited January 2023 in Universal Credit (UC)
Hi I have artheritis in feet, hands, hips and my back.  I'm currently awaiting an assessment. I'm on universal credit now.  I have sick notes.  My wirkcoach has been allowing me phone calls rather than attend job centre . Next week she insists I need to attend the job centre as I am still waiting an assessment.  I stated I can't get a lift and it is far to get a bus and then walk from bus station to the centre.  I asked my father but he is 83 and is not well enough.  Do I have to go regardless of the pain. I can't afford a taxi. Thanks for any advise

You can ask if they can change it to a telephone interview and tell them the reasons why you find it difficult to get to your local job centre.

Thank-you. I have done today. I'm worried they will not answer in time and that I will get sanctioned.

Maybe send a letter, send it 1st class, get proof of postage.

Thank-you. The message I sent was online on journal so I have evidence of sending.  Though I didn't say I wasn't coming. I said can't I please have a telephone appointment and said the reason.  I suppose it makes me feel embarrassed - the condition itself it bad enough but justifying it is embarrassing. Thank-you for your help

That's not going to help if the WFI is soon because it's likely not going to arrive on time. The whole point of having access to a journal when claiming UC is to avoid having to send letters by post and having to ring them.

Hi @louisedjackson and welcome to our online community, how are you doing?

Please let us know what response you get to your journal message.

I'll be sending you an email shortly - it's nothing to worry about - so please keep a look out for that. Also, I've amended your thread title to reflect your question and moved it to our Universal Credit (UC) category.

Good luck and keep us posted if you can.
