Permitted Work and ESA: Reporting self-employed earnings

Hi. I started self-employed permitted work on January 1st, and it's time for me to report my first five weeks of earnings and hours worked to the DWP.
I was wondering how other people who are self-employed on the permitted work scheme go about this?
Do you provide print-outs of receipts/evidence for payments you have received, or do you simply give a list of numbers in the form of a letter?
Many thanks for any help.

Hello @darinfan
I'm unsure about this. The GOV website doesn't give enough specific detail. I think it would be best to speak to the DWP and ask what they will need for the report

You'll need to speak to ESA. Have they asked you to report the first 5 weeks?0

Rather absurd then that they didn’t tell you what they want to see. As I see it have have two choicesdarinfan said:

i) ring them and ask them what they want, or
ii) send them what you’ve got and then respond if they ask you for more.0 -

No, not absurd at all. Par for the course!!!

The letter just says "send us your records," and so I've typed everything out into a letter, and hope this will suffice. They still haven't confirmed that my earnings will be averaged out over the year, as with other people doing self-employed permitted work I have spoken to. Hopefully they will after this letter. Earnings are minimal thus far anyway, as you might expect when starting out writing - nothing earned until you've written something!calcotti said:

Thanks as always for your help.0 -
For this initial period I would expect them to average over the period it relates to, 5 weeks. They may ask you to report again so that they can monitor. In the long term earnings will calculated based on annual figures averaged over the year.1

Thanks. There's not actually much to average at this stage, as income has been minimal thus far.
