Pension and UC

Can I just say a massive thank you to poppy123456 and calcotti who helped me get the career element. I was going to put this on the thread but I couldn’t find it. You were both fantastic and as promised I donated £60 into my local Scope shop. I cannot thank you enough! As always with these things another problem has arisen! My wife has now received her pension and is still getting paid her LCWRA and I am getting the careers element - all is well, or so I thought. My wife had to go to the dentist and he checked on his system regarding my wife getting Universal Credit and he couldn’t find my wife’s name (it had been there before). We are now worried that if she is not considered to be getting UC then it may impact on dental care etc.

Sorry Ianr I've forgotten your circumstances and I can't find any old threads from you (I don't know why not).
Are you already getting your State Pension and your wife has now reached State Pension age herself? If so your UC will end because it isn't paid to pensioner couples - it's a working age benefit.
If the situation is different could you remind us of your circumstances and what benefits you are both receiving.

Very strange. When looking back at previous comments from OP although it says there's 16, there doesn't appear to be any comments to show.calcotti said:Sorry Ianr I've forgotten your circumstances and I can't find any old threads from you (I don't know why not).

Hi Poppy123456 and calcotti Yes I looked long and hard. Never mind my situation was that both my wife and I were on UC and we were also deemed LCWRA and I was wary of claiming carers element. You both did a magnificent job in both signposting and reassuring me. My wife has now reached pension age, she gets pension and LCWRA and I get carers element (thanks to you two) but after a visit to the dentist she was told that she does not appear to be on the list as getting UC. Hope this helps0

As I understand it you are below pension age so you are both still getting UC.Presumably you’ve now got standard allowance, LCWRA element and carer element plus housing element if you are renting. Pension income is then deducted to arrive at the amount payable,
As you are both getting UC she is still a UC claimant. I didn’t know access had any access to a UC database but I can’t explain why she wouldn’t show up. Perhaps you could print off the most recent UC statement and show it the dentist.0 -
That's the first time i've ever heard of them having any access to that.Ianr said:she was told that she does not appear to be on the list as getting UC.

Hi calcotti yes I never thought of that! Once again thank you. This whole UC experience has totally killed all my thought processes. How the hell are we supposed to navigate a system whose default setting is we are all lying and we have to prove we’re not!0

Hi poppy123456 I’m not sure but once again for your speedy reply you don’t know what great feeling of relief it is having you both on our side. We are both grateful0

Ian, going off track - can you remind me when you reach pension age yourself.0

Just to recap your future situation for you.
- When you reach pension age the UC will end.
- If you need help with rent you will have to claim Housing Benefit.
- Depending on your joint situation at that time you may be eligible for Pension Credit.
The calculation of PC and HB can include an extra amount for carers but in order to get the carer premium you will have to apply for Carers Allowance to establish an ‘underlying entitlement’.
The time to review this will be when you are close to pension age (a lot can happen in two years).0 -
Wow thank you so much for this.0
