Hi
I was just wondering if anyone knew whether the only way to continue nic credits was to pay voluntary contributions if your only beneft is PIP? I can't work anymore, 3 years off state pension and get no other benefit (was told I can't claim as I have my own house)
Thanks

Hi @anniemac1878
I am no expert but I think that owing your own house should not come into the equation if it is your residence and only property that you own.
Maybe someone on this site that knows more can give you advice.0 -
The house that you live in is not classed as capital for any means tested benefits. Who told you that you can't claim benefits because you own your own house?Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement to Universal Credit. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=2d54c56f-5676-47b9-833b-514bf5811c49

Thanks Ladies
I rang to enquire about SSP in 2017 when I finished working. The person on the phone told me I couldn't as I owned my own house.
I do have some money in a pension plan (she didn't ask me about it) I could access if necessary I think. Do I use that to buy NICS? Crazy world! Dip into pension to get a full pension ha ha!
Thanks again!

DWP call handlers are not benefit advisors, use the link above to check entitlement to benefits. If not, you can claim New-Style ESA and whilst you may not get any money from it, you can keep the claim open and continue to receive the Class 1 credits providing you meet the other criteria such as getting fit notes from your GP until a decision is made on your capacity to work.1

Money in a pension pot is ignored for means tested benefits if you're under state pension age.Are you living with a partner or alone? Either way, use the benefits calculator above to check entitlement to Universal Credit.
