Can someone point me in the right direction. I’ve been offered my friends business. She wants to retire. And wants someone to take over and keep it running. I’m on ESA support group but I do not need to go in to work. Also currently on housing benefit and I’m just wondering if I took it on what changes it would make for me. I won’t actually earn anything for the first year because I will be paying for the van that is needed.

For ESA you can do permitted work. You must make sure you don't earn more than £152/week and not work more than 16 hours/week. You must tell ESA that you're working and you'll need to fill out a PW1 form. If you'll be self employed then you'll need to report your earnings and expenses.

Must work  less than 16 hours.

Thanks Calcotti. Of course I know that and I’m totally puzzled as to why I advised that. Must have been another of those stupid typos.
