I'm Autistic and Facing Homelessness due to Indirect Discrimination

For a little background, I am required to leave my current home on the 31st of March as my housemate is leaving and the landlord does not want to rent to me on my own despite the fact I can afford the rent. I have been trying to sort a new place to live for the past 2 months and I can't find anywhere as they either have a hidden 'No DSS' policy or get around the 'No DSS' ban by requiring all potential tenants to have an income that is 30x the monthly rent.
I am under 'Limited Capacity for Work' and therefore 30x the monthly rent is not attainable for me, and it seems every single landlord in the area is requiring it. I have searched sites like Spareroom and Gumtree and will either not get a response from landlords or be told 'No DSS'.

I have spoken to the council and they aren't much help. I honestly have no idea what I am supposed to do. I can't stop being disabled and I certainly can't afford to keep traveling to viewings only to be rejected because they think I am going to spend all my rent money on god knows what.

Hi! Sorry to read that through no fault of your own you're being made homeless. Was in that position before & it's not nice. You spoke to the council, but did they put you through to the homelessness unit? If not, that is who you need to speak to. They will give you advice & help.0

Good morning, I’m so sorry to read about what’s going on for you.
Could you not advertise or trying get someone else to share with you. Just a thought I hope something turns up for you.
Take care ❤️0 -

I have tried finding someone to share with but due to my vulnerable nature, it's hard to find someone I can trust. I also do not want to pass on my inability to be housed to someone else.

I'm so sorry to hear you are struggling with your housing situation @dantelloyd
Have you reached out to anyone like Citizen's Advice or Shelter for additional advice? I wonder if they have had others in a similar situation before. Can I also ask, are you doing all the house searching yourself? or do you have an estate agent to help you?0 -

Shelter never has anyone to answer the phone, Citizen's Advice would likely just tell me to talk to my local council. I am searching myself as well as asking estate agents to inform me of any suitable properties.

Hopefully something comes up for you soon, have you thought about a short term tenancy to give you more time? I know they can be a little daunting.0

The issue I am having is that I can't get anything, long-term or short. The cost of moving is also not something I can afford to pay twice in such a short period.

Yeah I can understand that, you don't want to have to pay out twice. I really hope you find something.0
