Son 14 has CP left leg

Hi all, My son who is 14 had CP in his left leg, he goes to children clinic onces a year for check up. Today they mention about early transition at 16 and he would get discharge from children clinic , so he would need to be seen by GP! So my questions if anyone knows, he stops having yearly appointments when he turn 16 and then has to go to GP for review about his CP  but what does GP do as they aint specialist in CP, My son always been under hospital clinics since he was born at 27 weeks so the next stage in his life is all new to me and him.

    Thanks for your post and welcome to the community.

    Your son will be discharged from paediatric/children's services at 16. Hopefully, the pediatric team he is with now will communicate with his G.P. and adult services well ahead of time.

    When he is 16 he will need to see his G.P. to get referred for ongoing physiotherapy and neurology/orthopaedic care.

    There are two centres that carry out CP-specific reviews:

    UCLH Cerebral Palsy Service

    Bobath Adult Review Service

    At the moment you will find that adult services are not as smooth and cohesive as paediatrics. This is something that we are working hard to change.
