Hi should universal credit notify me straight away if my landlord asks them
to start paying rent to them

Hi everyone I’m Scott could anyone please help me I’ve had a few issues with my landlord over rent and have fallen behind they have informed me that they have been told by universal credit that the form they filled in has been passed and that my rent will now be paid straight to my landlord but I have had no communication from universal credit advising this I am due to be paid next week and moving house my landlord won’t refund my deposit and now looks
like they will get the rent aswell

UC should inform you and your landlord that the rent will be paid directly to them.

2.3 What happens next?

Following a request for a MPTL a decision will be made whether or not a managed payment is appropriate and both the landlord and claimant will be informed of the decision.

with regards to your deposit then your landlord will have needed to use the Tenancy Deposit Scheme if your tenancy agreement started after 2007. They can’t just keep hold of that deposit without good reason. See link https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection
