Hi Barry. Please be aware that DHP is not a right. I don't know the in's and out's; there are folk on the forum who are better able to advise on benefits. As far as I know DHP is usually a short-term solution to help with rent, but I received it for 2.5 years because as a council tenant I was downsizing from a 2 bed designated 4 person flat to a 1 bed. It will depend on your personal circumstances but (as far as I know!) you have nothing to lose by applying for it. Good luck to you; I hope you get your rent sorted out.0

Steve is correct a DHP is discretionary and not always easy to get. You'll need to contact your local Authority to ask them to send you a form. They are quite complex so i'd advise you to get some help to fill it in. If awarded it's only usually for a short period of time before you need to reapply. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments
