Hi

Just registered on the forum as being relatively newly effected by my disability, I am finding the need to discuss and find potential routes of help / aid.

Start with a question then! Does anybody know of any independent vehicle specialists who could perhaps advise on transfer of hand controls from  vehicle to another (same model of car etc)

Thanks

Tim

Hello there @Timros and welcome to the community,  thanks for your query :) Can ask if you have a Motability vehicle?

If you are currently using hand controls, how are you finding them?

Yes Motability car on order with controls  but thinking in terms of existing car short and longer term.  The idea is keeping cost down when we swap to a newer model of the same vehicle and reusing the same kit etc...

    Hope that makes sense.

I think it does @Timros yes, you've got your current car with hand controls etc., and you want to transfer these into your Motability car when it comes, have I got that right?

Have you spoken with the dealership you've ordered your car from about this, as they normally have a list of suppliers for any adaptions, at least this was the case with my own Motability car, and the cost of these was all covered in the lease agreement.

I don't think I paid extra for my adaptions (a left foot accelerator and steering ball), but I appreciate that some are more expensive than others, and may well incur an extra cost!

    No

Mobility car ordered with hand controls.

It is a second (family) car that we will adapt with hand controls. Then I am talking of transferring those at a later date to a more recent model etc. Hence talking to an independent engineer as the usual routes say new car / new gear etc even the same model. Otherwise it is the cost of new controls £700 whenever we change....
