We've been on waiting list for my son since Nov 2021. Was told there is a 20 month waiting list. I've just had a phone call and it's booked in for June 19th. They are calling me tomorrow for my part. Mixed emotions right now x

It's great news that your son will be seen son @Carla2023 after such a long wait!
What kind of mixed emotions? we are always here if you need to vent0 -
Made up he's finally gonna get assessed. But wondering how he's gonna feel about the process and if he indeed has it, how will he react. He's already struggling. Lovely lady who booked him in explained it can have a positive effect and he can get alot more support with a diagnosis. I just want him to stop hurting himself and see what I see in him! He's taking his exams at the minute. I don't care what results are am so proud of him anyway for trying after being so unwell since Oct 2021 🙂0

Oh I understand, but like the lady said it'll open up more support for him and it may open up more people for him to talk too as well which would be nice for him
Sometimes in the struggle of finding out what is happening, getting that diagnosis, and getting help, you can meet and make some really good friends.
When you say he is hurting himself, is that wrong the suspected autism and does he have support for that from a GP or specialist in the meantime?
Aww, I hope he is getting on ok with them and that the school is supportive. Is he taking GCSE exams or A Levels?0 -
Are you aware that it’s potentially not just one appointment. When my daughter was assessed for ASD the whole process took quite a few months and they also observed her at college a few times too.0

Oooh good luck! That's a speedy wait, actually - especially with Covid and all.
My son was assessed in 2011 after a FOUR YEAR(!) wait.
Like Poppy says though, it is a very thorough process with a full team involved. They will observe him at school, speak to teachers and then he will likely do an A.D.O.S. assessment which is done over more than one session.
When all the info is collated, a clinical psychiatrist will pull it all together and place the diagnosis.
We certainly found it opened up a whole world of support. Our son is now 25 and still plugged into support services. It was very positive for him.
It's understandable you are anxious but I think you will find the support will be there for your whole family and it will be very beneficial, getting a label.0 -
Hi yes he's doing his GCSEs at the minute. It was school that picked up on it when he 1st started struggling when he was 14. But last year his mental health started deteriorating. He started self harming ( cutting his arms) and got brought home from a bridge and multistorey carpark. December he took an overdose. He was under camhs crisis team several times until I kicked off after overdose in December. am not normally the type to shout or fight or anything like tha, I think I was scared but they was discharging him again into community with camhs talking about sleep hygiene. No one seemed to have any idea what was happening or why. I went to PALS and complained. Now he's with Camhs knowsley, he has a therapist, early help and counselling in school too. He's no longer suicidal but still self harms. I've just had a 3 hour telephone call as part as his assessment. His 1st appointment is 19th June.
Thank you for all your support xx0 -
They think Autism and ADHD. They think he's masked all these years and the pressure of becoming a teenager and pressures of school plus low mood and depression. Camhs think it's more neurodevelopment than anything else am told. They said he may not understand what's wrong or if he does or doesn't he doesn't know how to express it x

I know he's only now grieving deaths of my mum and partner. And they passed when he was 6 and 7. Camhs told me he often mentions he misses them and He's unsure what happened and why x0

He's also talked about the possibility of him wanting to be a girl x0
