Carers Allowance/ child benefit

Hi all
So, my 17 yo son made a claim for CA and was awarded for caring for myself. He spends 12.5hrs pw at college. I have just noticed that our child benefit payments have gone down. I have tried to look and see if CA claim has stopped the child benefit but can’t find anything online about this. Also, if this is the case, will it take him off UC claim?

For you to receive CB your son has to be in full time education.
If he is in full time education he cannot receive CA.
However the definition of who is in full time education appears to be different for CB and CA.
The rules for young people and for students are very confusing be it is logical but you cannot receive CB to support him if he is eligible to receive CA to support himself.
Did he provide full details of his education as part of the CA application?

If you're still claiming child element of UC for him then this will stop. The same applies here, you can't say he's in full time education and claim child element and then claim CA and say he's not in full time education.

@calcotti yeah all info for his college was put on the application. I didn’t think he would be able to claim however after seeing that “you’re not studying for 21 hours a week or more” on the .gov website for CA.
That is all fine though in regards to the CB was just confusing as if you go to report a change in circumstances; ie CA, this isn’t listed.0 -

For CA see
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1151772/dmgch60.pdf#page12
paragraph 60074
For CB see

Looking at these it does seem possible that someone could be treated as in full time education for CB but not for CA in which case it appears that they could CA while you get CB. You are correct that CA is not listed as a benefit which precludes CB.
As per previous post the rules are very confusing! May be worth you querying the CB award.
Please let us know how you get on.0
