How many weeks from pip getting application form before assessment

How long have people waited for their assessment after the date pip received your new claim form, just wondering if it is weeks or months? is 6 weeks a long time or is that nothing and nothing for the person to worry about

    Hi - 6 weeks is certainly nothing to be concerned about, as it can take some time. The average for a new claim is probably about 10 months from claim to decision, & it can take anything from 2-12 weeks to get a decision after an assessment, so a bit of a wait yet possibly for an assessment unfortunately.

    It took 12 weeks from sending back my form until my assessment in the south. It does differ from centre to centre

    It does seem to vary widely, I applied 20th Feb then had phone assessment 19th April and received txt yesterday saying been awarded.

    wood73 That was very quick! was it a tel assessment? if so how did it go? My sons is a tel assessment, he has many health issues including gout arthritis osteoarthritis arthritis psoriasis high blood pressure sleep apnia irritable bowel and more, his life is in constant pain so we are hoping for the best outcome.

    Yes it was a phone assessment,  I had the questionnaire in front of me so basically just answered as I had on that and elaborated a bit on some points.
    It wasnt easy for me as I am not comfortable talking to strangers.

    Thank you for the heads up, He also has dyslexia so I will make one word reminder notes for him, so he doesn't stress trying to read while talking on the phone. I did photo the form for reference but it only came the day before they text him, saying, don't forget to return your form before the due date, so had literally days for me to help him fill out the form, so did not get everything down as well as would have been ideal.

    For future refererence, you can ring PIP to ask for extra time to return the form and they will give an extra couple of weeks at least.

    Well he had his Tel interview it lasted about an hour and a half, he said it was an horrendous experience! He is prescribed more medication than multiple people take and has more health issues than several people would be expected to suffer with, yet she kept tiring him out bombarding him with questions and going over the same things repeatedly. People claim PIP with just one of the conditions he suffers with, so we can't understand her interrogation like techniques, as common sense tells anyone with a heart, that someone with so many illnesses must be leading a painful struggling life! He got a text saying they got his assessment papers, but can take up to 8 weeks to get a decision! Hope its not so long, and the right decision, he deserves.

    PIP isn't awarded based on any diagnosis so it doesn't matter how many conditions a person has, we all have to go through the same assessment. There's no conditions that automatically entitle anyone to PIP.

    You can have a health condition but not qualify for PIP because if you don't meet the descriptors, you won't score the points needed for an award. I'm not saying this applies to your son because i don't know anything about how his conditions affect him but it does apply to some people.

    Now the report is returned a decision can take anything up to about 12 weeks, rather than the 8 you were advised.

    The only exception being having a terminal illness which it would be unsurprising to result in death within 12 months.

    Well he got a text saying they had the results for the tel assessment and got a letter saying they've got enough information to make a decision, but as well we know it still can take weeks. So stressful for people with disabilities.

    L_Volunteer Thank you for the message. He got his award but only standard rate! It is a joke, they said as he can drive (an automatic) so hold a steering wheel they deemed he could stand prepare and cook a meal, a steering wheel cannot cut you a sharp knife or peeler can and standing preparing food would be exhausting for him! so claiming he can cook using an aid is ridiculous. He has psoriasis gout arthritis affecting joints, mobility flexibility, and are incurable and so life long yet only a 2 year award. Claimed he could walk for a minute so could walk more than 20 meters when just standing is like standing on shards of glass with the gout arthritis. Gave just 1 point for managing treatments using an aid! He cannot apply ointment to his back or massage his own back neck and shoulders so should get help several times a day with that! also only 2 points for help with lower body washing and dressing not taking into account help with upper body. Claimed if he can hold a steering wheel he can cut up food! said he had no evidence of dyslexia but back then they deemed you slow if your reading writing was not up to standard yet he uses apps to help him. I think he will appeal does he need a form and what are his chances?

    It will only be possible to score more than 1 point for managing therapy if the therapy is given in his own home and has been prescribed or recommended by a registered doctor, nurse, pharmacist or health professional regulated by the Health Professions Council.

    Putting on cream is not taken into consideration for therapy and 1 point is correct for this.

    A perching stool is an aid for preparing food so if he can sit to do this then it will be 2 points. If he's unable to sit to complete this activity then it will depend on the reasons why he's unable to sit.

    It will help to have some understanding of the descriptors and what they mean before goind ahead to request the MR.     If you do request the MR then you also ask for a longer award. He will need to make sure he tells them why he thinks the award should be longer.
