Carers Element and commitments

in Universal Credit (UC)
I've been awarded PIP daily living, husband cares for me and meets Carers Allowance requirements. Can he add carers element to our UC claim? Also what would be the impact to his commitments, he's gainfully self employed in the start up period. I have also completed a UC50 but have heard anything back, if I'm not awarded LCW/LCWRA would this effect anything?  I already meet my individual commitments.

    There’s no financial gain to claiming carers allowance and UC at the same time because it’s just deducted in full from any UC entitlement. He also needs to be aware of the maximum earnings limit of £139/week. If he earns more than this per week he will not be entitled to CA.

    For carers element he needs to report a change of circumstances and report caring duties. Tell them he cares for you for at least 35 hours per week. Your maximum UC entitlement will increase by £185.86/week. 

    As a carer he will have no work commitments.

    Thank you, I was thinking the same regarding the Carers Allowance.

    Does LCW/LCWRA have any impact on Cares Element, would carers be removed if awarded or not awarded as we have a joint claim? Sorry tried to find the answer but I'm getting confused.

    LCW/LCWRA for you makes no difference to him getting the carer element.

    You may have read that LCWRA and carer can't be received at the same time but that only applies to the same person, not different people on the joint claim.

    Apart from him getting carer element which will increase your UC entitlement it means that he will, as poppy says, not have any work conditions. In turn this means that he will no longer be subject to the Minimum Income Floor.
