Nervous about my PIP result

Hi All,

I've read a lot of the posts on this forum and everyone seems extremely nice and helpful. I recently re-applied for PIP, my dad applied for me about 10 years ago when I turned 16, and would have been switched from DLA (I think) to PIP but I was denied. My circumstances are a bit different now I do have diabetes (had it since I was young) but now I also suffer greatly from mental health issues. I applied on 22nd of May, had a video assessment on the 26th of June and I was fine with waiting as I had completely forgotten about it until I received a text telling me "We have not yet made a decision on your PIP claim". I know this is just a standard text but it makes me very anxious. I finally also plucked up the courage today to phone DWP to get a copy of my assessment report and the guy on the phone told me it will be sent today and that my report is apparently very long, which did not help with my anxiety surrounding the decision and what has been said in the report. I do think my assessment went well and the person conducting it did listen to everything I had to say and seemed to understand what I struggled with but it doesn't make the waiting any easier. Any reassurance or kind words would really help right about now!  :s

Hi just had my assessment recently and requested my report. This definitely helped with my anxiety so hopefully that should give you some clarity/piece of mind once you get your hands on it. Luckily I got mine through the post the next day

Hoping I get mine this quickly it’ll make me feel a lot better, I’m not expecting to get anything as I know they don’t always give anything for mental health I went into this with an open mind and if I don’t get anything then so be it at least I tried, I’d just rather them tell me quickly if I have or haven’t got it 😅

    Hello @nikkim236

Welcome to the community! :) I'm so sorry to hear this has made you feel so anxious. They do give awards for people just with mental health issues. So will keep everything crossed for you :) Can I ask if you have support around you? and ask if your GP is aware?

    Hi @nikkim236

Thanks for making your post! I will be in your shoes very soon - I plan to make my application later this week and I am *dreading* the waiting part because I know I will just overthink everything and kick myself. I am quite good at articulating myself in writing but verbally I am not so good, so I worried I won't be able to explain everything I need to during the assessment.

Do keep us posted! Good luck!

The time to explain everything is when you fill out the form. If an assessment is needed it will be to gather more evidence to support your claim. By filling in the form with as much detail as possible could avoid the assessment completely. Please be aware though, you do not need to tell them your life story. Keep it relevant and straight to the point.

When filling out the form make sure you include a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descritptor that applies to you. Adding detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were. You should aim for at least half an A4 side of paper per descriptor that applies to you.

You can do some research before you apply and this way it will give you more understanding of the descriptors and what they mean. It will definitely help your claim by doing this. This may help. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria

You can also start by writing or typing some notes while you wait for the form to arrive and gather any extra evidence you have to support your claim.

    Hello Poppy
I did explain most of what you typed above in a reply to a post on the 17th https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/comment/716266/#Comment_716266 You managed to put a little more into the importance of the PIP2 Questionnaire than I did though :) The fact is if you include all of the relevent detailed personal written verbal evidence and information on the PIP2 Questionnaire form then the chances of needing a long Assessment or any assesment at all are greatly reduced.

Hi Poppy (I haven't tagged you as requested).

I didn't mean to take over Nikki's thread and talk about myself, that wasn't my intention, but thank you for replying to my comment.

I will take a look at the GOV website link you sent I think that will be really helpful. I will also start making notes because I am bursting with things to say and explain!

My hope is if I do a "good" enough job of the form I won't need an assessment but that remains to be seen.

Thanks again and thanks for all your hard work that you put in on this forum. It doesn't go unnoticed.

    x

I hadn't taken note of the advice you gave in that other thread so thanks for that. You always give good advice about PIP claims.

Thank you for your kind reply, I’m very lucky that I have good family support and support from my GP. This forum has also helped me with filling out the forms!

I received my letter yesterday and scored 0 for almost everything and after reading the report I must admit I’m very annoyed. It’s like the assessor just wrote whatever she wanted to write, almost all of it is not correct information. I said if I got awarded nothing I wouldn’t appeal but after reading the report I’ve definitely changed my mind.

    Hello nikkim236
Before you can go to Tribunal you ned to do a Mandatory Reconsideration. Do not telephone PIP to do a MR it is always advised to put your MR in writting. If you telephone to do a MR the clock will start ticking and you may not have time to submit your written verbal anacdotal evidence.
If you did not put detailed information on why you cannot do the 12 PIP activities Relaibly (important word) now is your chance to explain in detail with your written verbal anacdotal evidence why you cannot do those activities and what descriptor applies to you.
When writting your MR letter make sure you include a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descritptor that applies to you. Adding detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were. You should aim for at least half an A4 side of paper per descriptor that applies to you. (thx poppy)
Please read the information and links I posted on this reply because it will help you with your MR Letter https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/comment/716266/#Comment_716266
If you write a detailed letter explaining your problems and are still refused PIP then you need to take it to tribunal for appeal. The detailed MR letter will be used as evidence in the appeal and if it is detailed and explains the problems you have and the help you need according to the descriptors then the DWP might make an offer after you have applied for tribunal meaning that you may not need to have a tribunal. The key is the the verbal anacdotal evidence you include in your MR letter.
You have 1 month from the descision to request a MR (by letter) but you also have 13 month to request a MR if you give a reason for a late requesy (ill health, mental health problems or problems with your disability are examples) If they refuse your MR for being late then you can go straight to appeal and the MR letter will still be used as evidence in your appeal.
    Hope that helps

I'm so sorry that you scored 0 and that the assessor didn't take things down correctly. If you need any support with the Mandatory Reconsideration progress. Citizen's Advice has information pages and can help :)

Hi, new to the site and reading what you have been through/going through and the advice given is so helpful.
I have had a telephone appointment with my GP today as PIP contacted them for info...I don't think my gp listened to what I was saying and he didn't seem to know anything regarding my mental health. FYI I suffer from anxiety and depression. I'm finding the whole pip thing really stressful and my anxiety has gone through the roof. Anything I can do regarding my gp? Should I call pip abd mention to them that my gp was disinterested?
    Thanks and hello again
