Motability driving lesson scheme

Hi, this is my first post so apologies if it's not quite right.

I successfully applied for a Motability car with the view it would be here in October though I've had a call today to say it will be delivered at the end of this month. I only have a provisional currently (there is another named driver with a full license) as I planned to apply for the driving lessons grant (confirmed I am eligible) in July as that's when the 4-month delivery date was estimated. I'm just curious how long the driving lessons take to get up and running/how often they are from anyone who has had the grant?

Thanks in advance,
Isaac

BSM motability will contact you at some point. They will find a suitable driving instructor for you in the area you live. They will cantact you regarding this and they will pass your details onto the driving instructor, who will then contact you. (there maybe a waiting list for some intructors)

You will not need to pay the instructor anything because payment will come straight from BSM to the instructor.

You will just need to pay for your theory and practical driving test yourself.

Thank you Poppy, I've learned the application takes an expected 10 weeks to process and then the lessons are time relative instructor dependent.

The grant lasts for a maximum of 1 year, so if you haven't passed your driving test before that time then the grant will end, unless you've reached the maximum amount of hours allowed before that date.

Sorry to jump on and go off topic, but how long have you waited for your car @Isaac101 ? I enquired and was told at least a year

It's varies hugely between different dealers. It will also depend on the spec of the vehicle you want. When i order my last vehicle in 2021 i waited just 3 months. Some dealers do have about a years wait for certain makes.

@skyladawn I ordered a Peugeot 2008 in April, they’ve now told me late September early October the car will arrive although I’ve not had a build date as of yet so not very hopeful of them dates. Hope you don’t have to wait too long either.

I know it can’t be helped, it’s just frustrating when you think that’s like a quarter of not half of the time you have the car overall until another assessment period, it’s so frustrating, especially when your really in need of it isn’t it.

Exactly I know some people have called round dealers to see if they have any cars in stock or coming in, and have been lucky but have had to travel a fair distance for them

For this you need to be a motability customer and either have a vehicle in your name or be expecting delivery of a vehicle within the next 4 months. You must also be claiming certain means tested benefits. Information here. https://www.motability.org.uk/charitable-grants/access-to-mobility-grant-programmes/driving-lessons/
