Hi,
My mother is on highest rates of pip and also has been awarded with lcwra. I want to apply for carers allowance as I help her however we are not sure if that would work. Since she is on pip she is entitled to a carer however would me getting carers allowance interfene with her lcwra payment? Do they stop lcwra payments if she has a carer or there is no issue at all.

You claiming carers allowance for looking after her will not affect her LCWRA which is part of UC. Are you claiming any other benefits yourself, if so which ones? If you work you must make sure you do not earn more than £139/week.

Hi thanks for your answer. I do not get any other benefits myself no. Since I am 18, and previously my mother received child benefits for me, would she need to pay back anything for the period I get carers allowance for?0

You would not be entitled to carers allowance when you were in full time education. See link. https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/eligibilityHave you now left full time education and not returning in September? If so and your mother's child benefit and child element of UC has ended for you then you can claim carers allowance. You can also claim Universal Credit in your own right but the carers allowance will be deducted in full from any UC you're entitled to. If you do claim you'll need to report being her carer and your UC will include the carers element.

That makes sense, thank you so much for the help!I am no longer in full education, and I applied for carers allowance as soon as I finished education, so I received my first payment this week. However my mother also received the final payment of child benefit for myself this month so it seems that both have happened together? Would she need to pay back the sum she received now?0

I'm not sure about that. I do know that if she was receiving it 4 weekly then it will be in arrears, so it will depend on when her last payment dates covered and when your carers allowance started.Don't forget you can claim UC in your own right now. Carers allowance isn't much per week so UC will give you a little more income per month. You will also be entitled to free NHS treatment if you have no earnings when claiming UC.0
