Hi my name is Tracey, 9 years ago I had a stroke in my right eye NIAON. My vision has improved slightly over the years and I was able to lead a normal life etc. Last week I woke up with a shadow on my left eye which the hospital have said the same thing is happening. I have to have another test to see if I can, or ever will be able to drive again, plus an MRI to see what's happening. Has anyone had this in both their eyes, if so how are you.

Hi @TraceW - & welcome to the community. As far as I'm aware I don't think anyone else has mentioned Nonarteritic Anterior Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) apart from @Tanga who may see your post.I had to look NAION up, as it wasn't my understanding that this was the sort of visual field loss/problem that occurred with a stroke. I did read that a person that has NAION may also have problems in the other eye in some 15-30% of cases unfortunately.Do you know when you'll be getting a MRI?0

Hi it is classified as stroke in eye, I think because of blood flow. Not sure what exactly caused mine I don't have diabetes, smoke etc. My first one I had the most horrendous migraine never felt anything like it then a day later lost feeling in left side very briefly. No pain in the eye visual disturbance in visual field. Because my other eye was okaymy glasses helped it so I was able to drive seeing optician yearly. I've been under a lot of stress and distress over the past year as my youngest son was diagnosed with chrohns just after his 17th birthday and its been awful seeing him just disappear before you. I have a busy job self employed cleaner/carer so on my feet all day. I also suffer from headaches a lot. I think MRI in couple of weeks, eye hospital in Bristol are doing an eye test to determine the extent of visual loss for DVLA I think. As I'm not allowed to drive. My vision in left eye today is getting more prominent so I'm going to chase hospital up. As you do I've read that its rare in both eyes and I could end up registered blind. This is really making me so frightened not sure what's going to happen. Must stay positive I suppose. I'm only 57.1

@TraceW I'm sorry to read you are going through so much. I hope you are seen soon. When I was chasing my hospital for appointments a while ago, I asked if there was a cancellations list. If you are able to attend an appointment at short notice, may be worth asking?
I'm so sorry it has been frightening you. I hope the community can be a place of support for you0
