I’m writing on behalf of a friend she is receiving carers allowance for her autistic 20 year old who lives at home she gets income support of 50 pounds a week although she herself has a lot of physical and mental problems ages diabetic has severe skin problems and depression that warrants a huge amount of tablets given her by the doctor yet she doesn’t know if she’s entitled to apply for pip or esa or u c because she claims carers she assumes she can’t does anyone know what she can do she is struggling so much she gets 75 carers a week too

The only ESA that's possible to claim now is New style ESA and for this you must have the correct NI contributions. The NI credits from carers allowance alone isn't enough. Not only that carers allowance and New style ESA are overlapping benefits and you can't be paid both at the same time. The only other benefit that's possible to claim now is Universal Credit, as this has replaced all other means tested benefits. She will at some point between now and end of 2024 be migrated across anyway but she shouldn't claim it yet unless she'll be financially better off.As advised by woodbine, she can look at claiming PIP for herself. It's not awarded based on any diagnosis. Whether there's any entitlement will depend on exactly how her conditions affect her. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/

She would be entitled to PIP as she has physical and mental disabilities.0

We don't know anything about how their conditions affect them so we can't give any advice on whether they could score enough points needed for an award. The only ones that are automatically entitled to PIP are those that have 12 month or less left to live. For everyone else, no one is automatically entitled to PIP. We can't just assume there's entitlement here just because a person has health issues. You can have a disability but not be entitled because if you can't score enough of points, there will not be any award. Some people do fall into the catagory.

She has entitlement to make a claim - a whole world different than being entitled to PIP.durhamjaide2001 said:She would be entitled to PIP as she has physical and mental disabilities.0 -
I am sorry but part of this advice needs a lot of context and if possible must be changed. Please, to make sure carers who've become sick don't miss out on claiming a higher rate benefit (nsESA).poppy123456 said:The only ESA that's possible to claim now is New style ESA and for this you must have the correct NI contributions. You can claim New Style ESA if you've been on carers allowance.
What happens is, provided the tax year before claiming is a full carers allowance year then for the second year the DWP will have to find any other year in her whole history of national insurance which counts (which for the vast, vast majority will exist and you would have to be unlucky not to qualify).
Even though the two benefits do overlap if she receive the support group component of New Style ESA then her money will increase by more than carers allowance. £76.75 vs £129.50 per week which is a massive increase income.

With all due respect the only time I see you comment is when you find some fault with the advice I give.flour said:
