A close relative of mine died recently and I will soon be inheriting a sum of money. Is it required of me to inform the dwp? I claim pip and esa.
Many thanks

PIP isn't affected. If any part of your ESA is Income Related then any savings of more than £6,000 will affect your ESA and reduce it by £1/week for every £250 or part thereof over £6,000. Savings of more than £16,000 means there's no entitlement to any means tested benefits. This includes housing benefit, if you claim this.If you're claiming council tax reduction some local Authorities have savings limit of £6,000 before entitlement to CTR ends.1

Do you know how I find out if my ESA is income related or not? Doesn't say on any of the letters.0

If you're receiving anymore than £129.50/week then at least part of it is Income Related. To know if any part of it is contributions based then you'll need to ring ESA to ask.
