Hello, I was just curious today after my telephone consultation for PIP, who actually says yes or no at DWP? I just wondered if it was someone medical? Thank you in advance.

It's a decision maker and no they do not need to have any medical knowledge in any conditions. PIP isn't about a diagnosis, so any medical knowledge isn't needed.

Hi @darrenh, welcome to the community!

The assessment is supposed to be carried out by someone with a medical background however the decision is not made by someone with a medical background. They base their decision not on conditions but how affected your day to day life is, based on your self-report, evidence you submit and the assessment report.

Hi Jimm_Scope, thank you for your courteous reply. Just to confirm I had a text last Tuesday (19/09), a week after I had my phone assessment to acknowledge receipt of my written report, I had a text on the Thursday (21/09) saying I had been awarded PIP.
