PIP Renewal..Assessor Report

Hoping to get some advice. So yesterday I received a copy of the assessors report from my video assessment last week. Now as much as the write up is pretty accurate to what we discussed the descriptors ticked don't match this, so to me it almost appears contradictory.

The assessor has marked me down for A on all bar 1 which she has marked me B for which if I'm right in saying that would give me a total of 2 points!

A decision hasn't been made yet, what are the chances of the decision maker upping this so my scores actually reflect what is wrote on my report? Do they also take into consideration all medical supporting evidence sent?

This is a renewal, I've been receiving standard daily living for 5 years and very recently things have changed/worsened since my last pip assessment and this is what I made clear to the assessor last week.

If you've got this far, thank you and I look forward to reading some of your kind words of advice.

Firstly, I just wanted to put a section I wrote about some one just starting out to fill out the assessment forms, and hope this will help others, then answer your question.:

Let me put you at ease. I realise that the form is a monster but, the form is a standard form sent to every one, if you feel you can't complete in time then YES, ring and ask for an extention. They won't bit your head off. They are here to help.

What you should do is get a blank piece of paper and if its half done the set yourself say 3 questions and stop. i.e. Question 27. Your answer............ Try to look and see what it is asking you for, and try to stick to that. If it asks how far can you walk unaided, then if the answers do not fit, then write in the box why? I can walk about 15 feet but because of walking issues have to be near a wall or hand rail as my legs unlock and I fall.  Balance is another issue, but outside, I always take aids and always have someone take me shopping and use the trolleys for support. then move onto the next question.

In asking how far you can walk you have expaneded it to what you do outside.  simple answer:  I can walk 15 feet with aids and will explain further at back.

Some questions look like others you have answered, but are worded differently because the Decision Maker is trying to get an idea of what affects you and how.

If after three questions you want a break then do so. Never rush, watch T V go to the garden just do anything to sort of clear your head, it could be 1 hour of 5 hours and if walking past the form you want to do another question then do so, some questions you may only need to answer NO to and would send you onto the next section, as some questions have boxes to fill out with more info in them, others a simple tick or X.

Again ring them and say I have started to fill out the form which has to be back by the 19th Sept I will do my best to fill it out but if I need to take a few more days is that O K.? ALSO, get a friend or family member to help you fill it out, they ask the question, you give an answer. Once completed go through the questions and if happy with the answers then put them on the form, there is a section for any other things you want to add, and dont forget to sign and date it.

By writing it on a blank sheet you find when answering you remember other things, also if you have any supporting information make reference to it or photostat it and put it with the forms.

You will be O K. you have to remember that this form is not something that you fill out every day but the Decision Maker may have 1, 2, 5, 10 a DAY and this is why the form looks to mind boggling.  Let us know how you get on or if your stuck then ask for help.

      Now yours:

The Decision Maker always has the last say, s/he will look at all the evidence available and make their decision based on that.

Most people are afraid to fill out these forms and yet don't get the help they really need because of past experiences or what others have been through.  Things are changing all the time an interview I sat in on for a friend was all I could ask for because it started with the Full name of the assessor and their I D as it was on the NMC register which I checked and as far as the name and number was they matched and gave their expertise.

If you have had a Video conference or Zoom interview, then I would wait for the Decision Makers report since s/he would have also looked at that and compared this with the form you filled out, in having the Zoom s/he must have thought they needed a little more info before making the final decision.

I know its a waiting game of 6 to 8 weeks but all the info sent in is with them and unless anything happens in the mean time, like a fall or change of medication or a result of a MRI or X-ray then as said its a waiting game.

You can always ask for a MR or a FOI if its contridicts what has been said.

Hi @hannahe0, welcome to the Scope community. You certainly aren't alone when it comes to getting an assessment report that does not reflect your situation at all! It can be so stressful, especially a review where you rely on the money from PIP already.

You can try to contact the DWP to send a message to the case manager, but they will most likely still make a decision based on the report. What I would do is start preparing to submit a Mandatory Reconsideration as soon as you get the decision letter, the sooner you submit it then hopefully the sooner it can be resolved.
