Hello everyone, I have been recently diagnosed with diverticulitis and I am having a hard time managing the pain. I did get prescribed antibiotics but I had to stop bcs it keeps damaging my esophogus, due to a long term of taking antibiotics and I am not able to eat properly. Does the pain go away? Or will it just get less painful? What can I expect? I am working on my diet. Usually when you watch when you eat when can I expect improvements? Sorry for all the question but I am new to this having difficulty mentally to handle this. Thank you for listening!

Hello @maja1301
Welcome to the community!I am so sorry to hear you are struggling with managing your pain. We always tell members to consult their GP or Consultant for help with managing the pain.
I'd also encourage you to speak to your pharmacist. They have a lot of knowledge about medications and their forms. There many be another in the same family that makes it easier for you to eat?
The NHS webpage on Diverticulitis has information on the diet side and what to expect. I will say as someone with IBD and after speaking in the community here and in others about all bowel issues. Everyone is different. It would be beneficial to keep a food diary
I'm sorry it has been hard mentally, I hope the community can be a place of support for youDo you have support around you?

Thank you Hannah for your advice. Yes a food diary sounds like a good idea. My GP wasnt much health she gave me somw pills to take for thr next 3 months and told me to look on the internet about food and diet. No support, my family dont understand it. I think people with similar and same situation only know how it feels. I am very thin and my fear it to lose mofe weight than I already have by following a certain food regiment. I live in Serbia and it being a small country the pharmacist are not really much known with diverticulitis. Tried that but not much help. Trying out the world atm.0 -
@maja1301 I'm sorry to hear your GP was not much support. Are they able to refer you to a dietician or specialist for more information and support?
We've had many members find it difficult to discuss bowel issues. There seems to be a social taboo on it still. I hope more people can comment to help. Have you also looked at local information groups that may be near to you or online that you could join?0 -
